Plug alone or ?

Plug alone or ? - 01/26/02 10:21 AM

There are times I end up drifting my DB alone. Do you think plugging is a waste of time and should other methods such as driftfishing and bait + diver be the go to thing? No curtain of death in a one-man show!
I have done it before on summer runs and had some success but not great(of course!).
I am mostly a driftfishing fanatic that likes to mix it up.

Hey Shaker,

For what it's worth, I have caught fish while working just one plug many times. I sometimes feel that it may be an advantage believe it or not, particularly when fish have been seeing alot of different baits. I'm sure there are fish that head for cover when they hear three plugs rattling into the hole, gotta be scary when you've been hooked once before. Put on the doctor, work the best looking water, work it slow, and get ready, it's gonna happen, son!!

I made a bracket that held a plugging rod with the butt under the foot brace and the tip over the side even with the front seat. That way it was close enough to grab when it goes down. I made sure the anchor rope was draped over the tackle tray so I could drop the pick while keeping the line tight. The worst part of the 3 ring circus, is that if it's a big fish and it runs downstream you're gonna lose it. The second worst part is trying to net it, because you always end up anchored in faster than desired current.
Start plugging at the top of the hole and work side to side; slip down 3 feet and work side to side; slip down 3 feet.....they'll hit it, even if it's only because it's so doggone annoying and won't go away. I caught - and lost - my first summer run that way. I DON'T reccommend it for summer run....they move past the boat before you can get your hand on the rod!

i would consider casting and retrieving your plug while on anchorwhen fishing alone.its pretty tough to pull your plug, hook a fish, get to landing water by yourself.you will find great success by casting plugs.i've seen summer fish chase and take plugs from 30ft.away many times.good luck.scott

More then once I have caught fish casting a plug when other are trolling the same plugs. Where to cast the plug? Now thats the 100.00 doller question.
