Why Green Label?

Why Green Label? - 04/04/02 02:27 PM

This whole rush on green label herring has me puzzled. If I understand correctly they aren't the largest, and they aren't the smallest, and it has nothing to do with the herring quality.

Is it really possible that Springers are that sensitive about bait size that they overwhelmingly take these sized bait over the others? Or is it one of those instances where it's kind of a fad for the anglers? Kind of like the "What do you catch more fish on" thread, where because so many people are fishing green label that they are naturally catching most of the fish.

I feel like if you offer one size up or down in the right way that the fish will hit it regardless, but I look forward to any insight offered.

I think someone posted on that In-Ter-Net thingy that the success to Springers was Green Label Herring. wink

That would almost explain the herd-like mentality, huh?

Ok, for Kings any ways, I thought The Golden Rule was Big Baits = Big Fish? Does that not apply to Springers? Seemed to work for me....even back in the day when I used to use Gammy hooks! wink

I've personally done better w/blue label herring, plug cut. My theory, MAXIMUM FLASH. They can't eat it, if they can't see it.

The old-timers at the mouth of the Lewis use whole herring spinning quickly and they prefer the size of the Green Label stuff. Others who plug cut seem to like the bigger stuff.

Just say No to G....

Friends Don't Let Friends Fish With G....

Naw, I just can't get myself to say it! wink

Easy there. Just because I sometimes fish with Team Vicodin, doesn't mean I partake in their extra-curricular activities.
