Re: Memorial Day...Tribute - 05/27/02 11:51 PM

Lest we forget...
Memorial Day was initially called Decoration
Day and as kids my mom and relatives took us all
to the cemetaries so that we could clean the markers and put flowers on all family graves.
I hope that tradition doesn't totally fade away.

And Sparkey you have about 3 hours and 10 minutes left to grow to adulthood.

Thanks for the reminder FJ!

Many of us often think of some of the holidays as just that, but remember the reasons behind their existence!

Thanks to all those that have helped protect our way of life in the past and those who currently serving to do so in the future!

FJ,
You said it brother, and very well put! I serve in the Army currently at Fort Lewis. It is the "civilian folk" who take the time to say a little "thank you" to me and also appreciate those that gave the ultimate sacrifice that make the job of providing the blanket of security that this nation sleeps under at night worth while. Thank you!

Right on FJ! wink
You will never know how lucky you are to live in North America until you've been to other 3rd world countries. frown
I've spent 4 yrs in the Marine Corps and have been to 9 other countries. Somalia, North Korea, Egypt, ect.
"Our worst day here is 10 times better than their best day there!"
Only now, do I relize how important our missions were in the military, and what we were trying to accomplish.
As 19 year olds, we never saw the bigger picture of Freedom, or how important it is to us and other countries who desire it.
Thanks be to GOD, I'm an American! smile

Re: Memorial Day...Tribute - 05/30/02 11:22 PM

I know this is a little late but I know how you feel FJ. My wife lost her dad over there and he also was a combat enginer.

On another note, my son who used to post on this board until he was reassigned back to Ft Bragg is now in Kabol. I miss him and now understand the worry and pain that comes when a loved one is in harms way.

So even thou it is a little late, I would like to thank America's finest who serving and fighting for us right now. And my thoughts are with the other parents and loved ones at home awaiting thier return.
