shad in Longview? - 05/29/02 12:34 AM
Looking for any info on shad fishing near Longview. Last week while squawfishing(yes squawfish not the other name) we were anchored in 14-16 feet and marking lots of fish near the bottom. Any idea on depths to fish or general areas?

Not to be a smart aleck or anything, but maybe you should try fishing near the bottom where you were marking all the fish?

Alright I deserved that one. maybe I just didn't phrase the question right, I'm looking more for types of water(fast or slow), productive depths, near the jetties, or any other generic tips.

Most anglers on the Willamette fish small Dick Nites, Flicker Spinners, etc. behind a hot & tot diver or similar. Hot & tots dive 10-14 feet.
It seems to me shad like to travel in the 10-16 foot water column, based on watching my depth finder. I'd rather fish slighly above them than below them. Find a good traveling lane on the inside bend of an island, anchor up and hang on.
Hope this info helps.
