where to fish in the Wind river - 05/30/02 06:49 PM

I need a clue as to where to in the Wind river to fish off of the bank. I have been there out in my boat but never up in the river. How far up the river is the "gorge"? What type of gear\bait works best? Do I need to be prepared for combat conditions? Does the four fish limit apply there? It sounds like this isn't anyone's seceret hole but if you would rather e-mail than post that would be fine.
Thanks in advance

You can park at the Hot Springs and hike into the lower part of the river or you can drive up to milepost 7 (on the main highway running N out of Carson) and look for the parking lot with the hundreds of vehicles.

The whole Wind river is a combat fishery, so don't expect solitude. Good luck!

Just got back from 2 day's of fishing the Wind. It definitely was combat conditions in the good holes, but if you were willing to fish marginal water you could find plenty of room. Be prepared to deal with plenty of rude white trash. I couldn't believe all the cans, hooks, and other trash these bozos left laying around. Not to mention guy's that acted like they owned the river. Fortunately their were enough sportsmen to keep them somewhat at bay.

We used slip bobbers w/ eggs and got 2 limits of 4 the first day, but only got 1 fish the second. A large number of fish were at the "rock hole" this Friday morning near the hot springs resort that Bounty Hunter mentioned. Since then they moved up and should be thick near 7 mile. The key is to get on the water early (3:30 am) to get a good spot. The bite is hot in the early morning. Good luck!!

I fished mile marker 7 on saturday morning. Not one fish caught by 8:30am. Went home, got the boat, went to the fishery and Dad and I boat two nice keepers on smelt and sandshrimp.

I even got my favorite spot!
