Grillin' Plank (cedar) recipes - 06/03/02 05:50 PM

Now that we all have our cedar and alder grillin' planks, how about some recipes?

Any one care to share (or give, in this case) a good recipe for grillin' salmon/steelhead on a cedar/alder plank?

Please be specific, as some of us are cooking-impared. wink

Thanks to the Cowlitz (and Rooster), I've got a nice summer run fillet to grill up tomorrow on one of my cedar planks. Just need a recipe to try out.

Thanks,

Try marinating the fillet in apple juice overnight before grilling on the cedar plank. Use the unfiltered 100% juice, not processed cider. As the fillet is cooking, try basting it with a little honey. I've tried this technique many times and I've always been happy with the results. Bon appetite'.

Suuurrre, Mr. Parker.
Thank the Cowlitz, and not Rooster.
Actually, I guess after what you have been through on that river you should thank someone for breaking your jinx.
Cooking tip (works well with geese also):
Lay out that fillet, spice it up and cook it at 325 on that plank for about 15 minutes.
Take that plank and hold it over the trash and slide the fillet off.
Use a sawzall and cut the plank like a pizza....
I HATE FISH COOKED ON PLANKS!!!!!

Sorry Rooster, as you deserve all the credit there. Runnin' the sled is the major battle at Blue Creek. Hell, any idiot can drag their bait in to a fishes mouth! wink

I know that recipe, Rooster. Here's a similar drink recipe that I'll probably fire up tonight:

Parker's Ultimate Mint Julip:

Prepare a simple syrup.
Pick 5-6 fresh mint sprigs.
Crush a glass worth of filtered ice.

In your favorite glass, add in 3-4 fingers of Knob Creek, Blantons, or Woodford Reserve (tasters choice). Toss the simple syrup, mint and ice away. Enjoy.

Season with a Arturo Fuente Bully, as needed.

where can you get the planks, I think I missed it...

and do you just build a fire and lean it towards the fire, or puttint a plank on the grill?

Thanks a lot.
