New rod - 07/13/02 10:27 PM

Hey guys, I need to buy a new rod and reel, and was wondering what I should get for under $100. It will be used for freshwater, from trout to steelhead to bass. I want light action to... I've been looking at just getting another quantum.

Also, has anyone seen those rods where the line goes through the rod? How well do they work?

Thanks!

in my opinion browning makes a really good all round rod for the buck. I've beat the holy pi$$ out of a couple of them and they keep on bringing in fish. Another option is getting a st croix and tying it yourself. It is really easy and you'll appreciate catching fish on it ten times more. as far as reels there is so many out today that are good it's just in what makes you happy.
good luck and if you need help tying just ask(if you go that route)

I dont know how far you live from Portland but Fishermans Marine has Berkly IM7's on sale for $59! That is a great rod for the price and have many styles to choose from.

I use a Shakespeare Intrepid Titanium IM-7 rod thats 8'6" and Shakespeare Alpha 2540 AL reel with 12# Trilene and have never lost fish on it due to line breakage(just lose them from stupidity LOL!!!).

Fish feel good and the fight is fun on it.

I paid $91.00 total for the setup. laugh
