Fish Log / Journal - 10/20/02 04:46 PM

I am not sure how many of you guys keep a journal or a log of all your outings .

I started to do it this year after puting it off for a long time. I have been using my Word Doc for my journal. I have logged the date, time weather, conditon and location, along with other valuable information.
I am hoping this will help me out in the future and see some common occurences or patterens.

For any one else who is intrested in doing this or thinking about it here is a basic program that is free and useful. I know word is free and easy but this is a neat little fill in the blank one.

Its called Flog. It is for Flyfishing but you can use it for any type.

I checked this log app out and the problem I have with it is that it is a web based application. Knowing that, I would hesitate to use it. I don't really think that I want to have my personal log info available to whomever may have access to the online log files and you never know who that might be.

What ever happened to a set of spiral notebooks for each area you fish. I have a book for each area I fish on a regular basis and one labeled "1 hit wonders" for places I don't fish very often. I write the date, tides and weather when I start and the location, depth of the water, depth of the rigger and bait/lure for each fish. I also try to note if I was trolling with, against or cross current and any other info that seems important (lots of bait in the area, lot of dog fish, fish taken near a shelf, etc...).
Doesn't take up much room in the boat and can also be a neat little scrap book if you tape some pictures in there after your more memerable trips.

i have a daily planner on my desk that i use, rather than writing what i'm going to do on any given day, i write what i did (fishin wise) on that date
