If our political institutions were perfect, they would absolutely prevent the political domination of money in any part of our affairs. We need to make our political representatives more quickly and sensitively responsive to the people whose servants they are. More direct action by the people in their own affairs under proper safeguards is vitally necessary. The direct primary is a step in this direction, if it is associated with a corrupt-practices act effective to prevent the advantage of the man willing recklessly and unscrupulously to spend money over his more honest competitor. It is particularly important that all moneys received or expended for campaign purposes should be publicly accounted for, not only after election, but before election as well. Political action must be made simpler, easier, and freer from confusion for every citizen. I believe that the prompt removal of unfaithful or incompetent public servants should be made easy and sure in whatever way experience shall show to be most expedient in any given class of cases.
– Theodore Roosevelt, speech at Osawatomie, Kansas, "The New Nationalism" (August 31, 1910)

At the risk of repetition let me say again that my plea is not for immunity to, but for the most unsparing exposure of, the politician who betrays his trust, of the big business man who makes or spends his fortune in illegitimate or corrupt ways. There should be a resolute effort to hunt every such man out of the position he has disgraced. Expose the crime, and hunt down the criminal; but remember that even in the case of crime, if it is attacked in sensational, lurid, and untruthful fashion, the attack may do more damage to the public mind than the crime itself.
– Theodore Roosevelt, speech, "The Man With The Muck Rake" (April 15, 1906)

I believe that the officers, and, especially, the directors, of corporations should be held personally responsible when any corporation breaks the law.
– Theodore Roosevelt, speech at Osawatomie, Kansas, "The New Nationalism" (August 31, 1910)

Let individuals contribute as they desire; but let us prohibit in effective fashion all corporations from making contributions for any political purpose, directly or indirectly.
– Theodore Roosevelt

I could go on and on. And folks wonder why I'm such a Teddy Roosevelt fan. And this isn't even taking into account his conservation work.

Said it many times. I'm a conservative without a party. But then again Teddy wasn't all that well liked by the Republican's either. Imagine that.

TR was awesome.

Our politicians today are a disgrace. TR would have dragged them out on to the lawn and kicked their asses like they deserve.

What's not to like about TR, and why can't we find another President like him?

Not many men like him anymore Dan.

Doc...I am fixing it for you...."No men like him could be elected anymore Dan."

The causes of the current problem preclude it.

Silly Ryley...

He shoots hoops...
Quote:

In an interview with ESPN, Robinson described Obama's floor game like this: Barack is a left-handed player who can only go to his left. He's got a long frame. He'd rather drive than shoot. He isn't much of a passer.

But... it is March Madness...bet there are some great game feeds streaming into the White House right 'bout now rofl

Go right ahead. If you really wanted to know his schedule look here. Looks pretty full to me.

But I suspect you would rather just bitch about something.

Now please advise as to what Obama should do about the tsunami, the resultant market decline or your weather.

P.S. Extra credit question. Which presidenspent the most time at this point in their presidency on vacation. Bush or Obama?

Hank, are you drinking again? Your post is too silly to bother to respond to. I will refrain from the type of insults KK hurls at you but I can understand them better after silly posts like your last one.

I will mention one of your silly comments. Health care costs were rising rapidly before Obama took office. But you knew that didn't you? Yet you want to blame him for that. Too silly. Your other points are similarly asinine.

Almost every problem you mentioned was inherited from the shrub. Remember him? Most have been improved upon under Obama's watch.

Now would you care to address the topic?

There is a very good TR book out now titled The River of Doubt. Great read and a look into the character of a true patriot.
