Beware a knock at the door. - 03/19/13 02:18 AM

Why we are concerned.

Thugs at the door.

Executive Summary of events recounted in above thread: Noo Joisey guy gets call from wife while out and about, cops and CPS-equivalent are at house, got wind somehow of a photo of Junior holding an evil black rifle, and want to "Inspect the gun safe to ensure everything there is legally registered."
Guy says "Don't do nothing until I get home", immediately initiates RTB, calls lawyer, gets home, puts cell phone on speaker so the various and sundry thugs, jackbooted and un-, can hear. Answer is unequivocal "Come back with a warrant." Vague threats about about "lack of cooperation looks suspicious", implications of taking kids away, etc., muttered as various thugs beat a hasty retreat, covering faces so that their photos cannot be taken, and refuse to give names, etc.

I was born and raised in Tacoma, when I first read about this travesty of justice I told myself that it would be overturned in our courts, I was wrong. When the people in power are unrestrained, we will be at their mercy.

Dogfish, it's an interesting and instructive story. And in a lot of ways I agree with the homeowner and his response.

But this is profiling of one sort... He's been profiled and had vague threats lobbed at him because of appearances and something he's doing that is completely legal. Which is maybe a small insight into how crappy it must be to be profiled in other ways (racially, gender, etc), y'know?

As a guy who I totally respect, do you think this is a fair analogy?

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
Profiling is a result of facts.
It doesn't in itself do anything except set up precautions.

Kinda like eating bad crab.
You'll never eat someone else's crab without a sniff first.

Is it a good thing?
Ask your gut.
and then let a reformed sexual assault criminal babysit your kids.

I see it as an attempt to violate a person's 4th amendment rights, and nothing more.

agree

I was addressing the "profiling" statement......not that I agree that this fits that description

This is what prompted the raid. A picture of a kid holding a legal firearm, safely, chambered in .22LR.

Yup, I get what prompted the visit and pressure from the cops (probably not a raid, unless they kicked down the door, but certainly aggressive)... All the cops had was the optics -- kid + gun, let's go harass the family because we don't like it/we got a complaint.

Again, I think this situation is crappy and the homeowner did well. And all I was trying to point at was that this is a case where you can easily empathize with the family -- and that can be a useful window into other situations where people are profiled and pressured to submit to searches/etc for other reasons. I'm just hoping this case makes people think a bit more broadly about defending not just their own freedoms, but ALSO those of people who are really different than themselves...

Sir, your posts lead me to believe that you may not be of the age of reason, and it is apparent to me that you have lived a sheltered life and therefore that you are unaccustomed to a logistical thought process.

I'm interested in logistics and have always appreciated logic. But I've never been into "logistical thought processes." Maybe cuz I've never heard the phrase before.

If the Sultan says it is, then it must be true.

Tis funny?

Stooges

See the Stooges lined up on on the wall
and one by one we watch them fall,
there faith in government put them up there,
and still one by one they fall,
as they tip over it does not pleasure me,
but at least I am still free.

Sh!t yeah, it's funny.

You must work for Fed Ex or something.

Stick with logistics, though, because your poetry blows.
