old fishing gear - 04/26/15 10:48 PM

Scored some old reels. Gonna be cabin art at the cabin in Alaska .Can't believe how cheap they go on E-bay. An old Belmont goes for like 20 bucks online. Might be a good time to buy vintage gear. Got an old Mitchell in the box, with the old receipt. I'm seriously thinking about fishing it. There's an old Ambassadeur 5000 that looks like its never been used. Its been sitting in storage for years. Seriously feels like a modern reel but was made in Sweden. WTF do they know about fishing? grin

My first baitcaster was a Diawa Millionaire, and although it saw many years
of bass fishing, it's still in great shape, and is stored in the original reel
sock, in the original box.

I'd sell one of my Curado's or Calcutta's, but that ones like an old friend.

This old Belmont no. 3123500 needs to sit where I can see it everyday. Makes me grin when I look at it.

Your super sweet nice old bait casters were mainly made in the KY area. The Talbot (another fine watch reel) was made in Nevada MO. Nevada is not pronounced like the state out west. I've owned all of these over the years. Nice German silver with lots of Knurling. The small Tournament reels can fetch up to 2-3k. I kick myself for getting rid of a handmade Shakespeare style B with the original leather case....rare as hens teeth. Sold it to a Doctor in Fort Myers FL. Bought it for 40.00 and sold it for close to 1k.

Also look out for old lures, creels, nets, hats and other sundries to round out your collection.

I'm diggen the 5000. I'm gonna use it till it gives up the ghost then use it as a paper weight. Maybe a book end or door stop.
I can't believe how smooth that fuker is.

Also found an old Heddon plug with the box. Most of the gear is dated from the '30's to 40's.

I have my grandfathers old split cane fly rod as well as all his old fly tying stuff. I plan on making a display case with those items and a bunch of vintage plugs and reels. I love old gear especially when it has sentimental value.

It was used buy my old science teacher that became friends with my uncle. My aunt has decided to move after 35 years from the home she was raised in. Treasures everywhere. I'm keeping the 5000 and hope to beat the chit out of it while remembering what a great guy he was.

Bunch of old hand tools that are going for sale too. Grabbed an old H. Disston handsaw. Wish I had more time to pick through the rest of the tools.
