Road trip music- The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street,The Scorpions Lovedrive,UFO Lights Out,and Ozzy Osbourne Diary of a Madman. That is just for starters. I always pack some AC/DC with Bon Scott, like Powerage or High Voltage, maybe Jailbreak, some good old rockin. May throw in Zep Physical Graffiti in there,or Presence. The Who live at Leeds. Zappa.

70's easy listening?

Yo Dreamweaver, I gotta a song for you...

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right'
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
A little afternoon delight
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Please be waiting for me, baby, when I come around
We could make a lot of lovin' 'for the sun goes down

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Afternoon delight!

Re: Road Tunes - 07/22/20 10:23 PM

Well....give us an example.

You mean like Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, The Carpenters or Van the Man? Groups like that? I honestly don't know what classifies in this genre, but I am 70's curious.
Posted by: JussieSmolt

Re: Road Tunes - 07/22/20 10:40 PM

yeah. Fleetwood Mac and such. Maybe easy listening isn't the best classification. Stuff that old black folks listen to...Also some 80s and 90s punk.

Whoa! A Savoy Brown plug. Damn Illahee - you do have great taste in music. Been to Winterland and the FW in person during the heydays - makes me very jelly.
Posted by: Illahee

Re: Road Tunes - 07/24/20 10:14 PM

If I remember correctly they were more popular in England and Europe, so I saw them as a warmup band.

I was on my walk today and it came to me why Savoy Brown never really made it in the US.
Their manager was Kim Simmon's father, and he was a number one ahole.
This is also the reason for the high turn over band members.

Re: Road Tunes - 07/26/20 01:39 PM

This is a tribute to a true blues legend, Peter Green kills it on lead guitar and really shows his range.
This was in 1966, I think the Bee Gees or Monkeys or Wee Wee's were popular on American AM top 40.
Then the Vietnam War happened and I found myself surrounded by blues junkies.
This is what we listened to in the shop.
Lifers hated it, but majority ruled the shop stereo.

Re: Road Tunes - 08/12/20 08:34 PM

I've been on a smooth 70's kick lately. Supertramp, Gerry Rafferty, Harry Nilsson with some Steely mixed in.

It's the dog days of summer. Workin' from home. Chillin' in the yard with the dogs, chickens and Swiss Chard. Pretty mellow and relaxing. My Swiss Chard LOVES Harry Nilsson and grows much better whenever I play Coconut.

Weed has absolutely nothing to do with any of this. I don't touch the stuff personally.

Me as well - back in the Colorado cowboy outlaw days. I got into some small trouble in kindergarten for singing "Up Against The Wall" during class. My teacher had to ask my mom about what in the hell I was singing and what it meant. Mom just blushed and said sorry, we'll handle it.

I love em' all, but Waylon is my go to guy. Imagine if he'd got on Buddy Hollies plane that fateful night? He beat himself up for years about what he said to Buddy before they left and was never the same after that. That's what caused his downfall into Outlaw country, cocaine, booze and women.

Protip: If at all possible, Karaoke "Put another log on the fire". It's a real crowd pleaser, especially with the women folk. thumbs

Re: Road Tunes - 09/10/20 09:21 PM

Arvid - did you know that "Put another log on the fire" was written by Shel Silverstein? Most people remember him for his books and drawings, but Shel wrote a TON of popular songs for lots of artists back in the day.

In that context, the lyrics of the song make absolute perfect sense. How could it be anyone else but that smartass?

On a real note, there are few modern acts that intrigue me too much, and the era of the 60's and even 50's to the early 2000's have so many acts I could never discover them all anyway ,is enough to keep it fresh and busy for me. I did recently discover these 3,from Texas, playing Isley brothers influenced Thai Funk with a psychedelic twist. Plus the bass player looks pretty nice to me wink. Good decent tasteful guitar player ,and the drummer is a human metronome.

It's a bit mellow to be driving music ,as I like to be invigorated on those long ass drives north to salmon and steelhead fish. But as far as lately I have been checking out Delaney and Bonnie,Tormenter,Tommy Bolin and Purple, and lots of 80s metal because it reminds me of a time when life was simpler, people seemed to be having more fun,and I could tell dirty jokes without being cancelled out. I agree my tastes must be in my mouth as you put it,because Miles Davis to Thelonius,Return to Forever and Weather Report,Dark Angel to Darkthrone,Zappa ZZ Top and the Beastie Boys,Tribe called Quest and The Who,Santana to Slayer, and Waylon to Roky Erickson,Moby Grape, and Creedence to COC and Trouble,to Sabbath and Linda Ronstadt,EmmyLou Harris, and Buckethead are too limited right?
