Elliot Bay - 12/27/02 10:55 AM

Both the PI and the Times reported good blackmouth catches off Harsteen Island. Am I asking for trouble trolling downriggers through the mootchers? Anyone been going out in Elliot Bay? Will be watching the wind....

I fished around West Point and Duwamish Head last weekend and caught a bunch of shakers, but nothing over 20 inches.

Had the same luck on Jefferson Head yesterday.

I fished Elliott Bay on Sunday, and Monday, and did great both days. Sunday the Tengu derby was going on and i think they registered, 25 Blackmouth for 50 anglers, with lots of barely under 22' shakers. I got (1) #9-10 B/M, and (2) #7 B/M,to release. and my brother on board had 2 fish that were legal for him and his son. Monday we hit 4 keepers about #6-7#kept the biggest two, and released many near legals. All in 100-170 feet deep and cut plug on a mooching rig, with a fish caught on a dart 3.5 ounce all white. I was not in the derby but should of entered as i would of had a few bucks in my pocket.

I Just troll right around them if they are in that tight that you can not get through them. Dont know how tight and were they are fishing exactly but I dont see any problem.
And I would not run through them without downriggers.

I made it out on the afternoon of New Years Eve and launched at Shilshole. Started at Meadow Pt and got the usual shakers. Went around west pt with the idea of going over to central Elliot Bay, or Harsteen Island, but was getting a good head wind and fished back around West Pt to the Ship Canal. I finally got a keeper blackmouth over 22" that the seals didn't steal!!! Great way to bring in the new year.
