Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/29/02 05:46 PM

Just for ****s and grins, when my wife asked for ideas for stocking stuffers, I told her I needed some lures. When pressed for more specifics, I told her to pick out whatever caught her eye, and we'd try it out. Call me adventurous.

On Christmas day, I open my stocking and find a huge batch of spinners! Rooster Tails, Martins, Blue Foxes, and Bang Tails of all sizes, followed by a lovely squidlike mooching hook and leader.

I guess I get to do a little more spinner fishing this year. smile

I didn't receive anything fishing related but I did sell a lady a Garmin 188c chartplotter with a chip, her husband just got a dandy $1500 X-mas present.

Well I got what I usually get from that old fat man. Zero. I guess that I've been bad all year. My wife almost bought me some fleece pants but I spent the money on other fishing related things. hello

Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/30/02 02:03 PM

I got a box of Gummy Fishing Candies. In the collection, there are some nice Gummy Worms. Most of the colors won't work, but there's one nice red/clear one I'm gonna tie up and fish on the Hoh with The Reall Big One! I'll save it for the "One A Day" hole on the Hoh. You know, that one hole where it's almost a given that you'll get a fish on the that first cast....because that's how many casts a gummy worm will last!

Oh yeah, I'll video tape the experience and post it here! laugh

I guess my Koeffler, Suburban, and taimen trip will have to wait until next year! frown

Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/30/02 04:01 PM

Santa left a new Lamiglass XCF 903. laugh It's a 9 foot rod specifically made for trolling at places like Buoy 10 and Drano Lake. The stocking was stuffed with everything from cerise yarn to shrimp oil to jig hooks. It was a very good year. Now I just need the time to use them...

Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/31/02 01:45 AM

A Ross Canyon Big Game 7 fly reel and a big hug and squeeze which prompted some flatulence which ended up clearing the room. Sorry, I guess sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/31/02 03:24 PM

I've seen mention of Japanese versions of Shimano reels lately, where can you purchase these?

Mail order, web or any sporting goods stores?

Any stores tween Olympia and Bellingham carry these?

Thanx n Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Roger

Re: XMAS Gifts - 12/31/02 04:19 PM

RRR,

Here are a couple of links for you, one explaining some differences between the US and Japanese versions, and another to an online store.

I actually got my reel off of ebay, if you run a search for Shimano Metanium you will normally see a few listed. The $239 for a Shimano Metanium MG is still pretty fair, I think I got mine on ebay for $200 plus shipping, brand new. It is light and smoooooooth smile

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/01/03 09:42 PM

Oh a Calcutta fan, huh??

How 'bout a version of the Calcutta you've probably never seen ... twice the bearings and machined to cut weight smile

Where?? Off of Ebay ... never seen the water, I might keep this one stashed away for that time when Calcutta become the Bantam $$$ frenzy of the last few years!

PS ... I finally got my camera back banana thumbs

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/01/03 10:31 PM

Nice pics.

Seems like I've seen that reel before...

So...how does it cast?

Think it's worth the money?

Sincerely,
Roger

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/01/03 10:37 PM

How's it cast? Never put line on it smile

The box it came in is labeled Calcutta XT.

All Japanese literature and labeling on box ... has two different cranks, one big, one small.

$260 ... a spendy addition to our Shimano Collection (have a Stogie as well) and nearly one of the whole older Bantam line smile

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/01/03 10:55 PM

I caught the part about no water but thought that you might have tried it.

Sounds like quite a collection!

Happy New Year!

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/02/03 12:13 AM

That calcutta sure is purdy smile

RRR, I fished the Metanium a little bit today and I think if you can pick one up for around $200 they are worth it, considering its MG, and a regular Chronarch is near $200 I think in most catalogs.

Have fun shopping beer

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/02/03 01:57 AM

Been updating all our reels to Shimano Japense models.
They are a lot better.
The most reliable and honest seller on ebay so far has been Reelseller.

Re: XMAS Gifts - 01/02/03 01:06 PM

The fishin' Santa didn't drop too much off at my house over the holidays. There was a GI Joes gift certificate that lead to a halibut rod/reel, a 50 pound handscale, a license plate for the new boat (santa actually came in September with an 18' Lund) that read "I saw, I cried, I whined, I got". It's on the boat trailer now.

Santa was nicer to my wife. She has something nice and shiny for her wrist.... and it wasn't a lake troll wrapped up.

Santa was good to Jeff'e'd and I got a Nikon 4500. I am looking forward to posting some fish pics on this website in 2003!
