2 cycle oils (and Yamaha's)

I have a 1999 Yamaha 115hp outboard that will smoke to much on occasion. I have always had difficulty mixing the oil thourghly and had to switch to Yamalube($$$), a high synthetic oil. Has anyone else had similar problems with Yamaha's or other motors? ANY ADVICE? HELP!

I have a 97 25hp that's oil injected. I ran a gallon of the Yamalube which came with the motor,then switched to Lubrimatic. The Yamaha oil was really thick and did seem to smoke to much. I tried the Lubrimatic,and it makes less smoke,and cost's less. I called the dealer and they said any 2 stroke oil is O.K. as long as it has the TCW-3 rating.

I think Lubrmatic is the brand name. I think I have seen it at GI Joes and Auburn Sport & Marine. I know I have seen Lubrimatic somewhere I just can't remember where exactly.

Yes the name is Lubrimatic. It's sold all over the place,and is pretty easy to find. It comes in a white bottle,with a baby blue label.

THANKS!............Sounds like something I need to try. Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of using a synthetic vs. petroleum based oil?

I have heard you don't want to switch back and forth between the two. Sythetics have a smaller molecular structure. If you switch from regular oil to synthetic you can develope leaks in your powerhead.

You can switch back and forth between syn and reg oil all you want. Syn oil doesn't cause leaks,it may bring one to your attention,but won't cause one by use. Syn oils have more detergents in them and tend to clean all the gunk the dino oils leave behind. If you switch to syn and find leaks,you had them before,and the dino oil had them plugged.

This really won't have an effect on an outboard,since the oil is suspended in gas,and isn't confined in a oil pan,and crankcase,unles you have a 4 stroke.

Syn oils cost more,but offer better protection than dino oils. I run syn in all my vehicles,but not my 2 stroke engines.

And not all syn oils are truly syn. Most syn oils are just highly refined dino oils,that can legally be called syn,because of the refinement. Amsoil and Mobil1 are true syn oils.

Oil??? What's that? Only oil I put in my motor is in the crankcase.

Also I can talk (not shout) over the sound of my motor when it's running wide open.

Oil doesn't apply to you huh? You gonna run the factory oil forever? I'll bet if you looked,you'd find something better than the factory stuff.

not smart enough to know about all of my options yet.

Right now I'm letting the dealership do the work on my two motors.

i have had my 115 yamaha jet drive for 13 years now and have ran only yamalube in it, i was told by a outboard mechanic that yamalube and quicksilver where the only two to run in my outboard. sometimes it does smoke on start up but the key thing is, it runs! and it runs hard... i doubt i will ever use any thing else

I use Quicksilver in my Yami 150 HPDI and it doesn't have a smoke issue. Runs real smooth actually, and you can buy the oil at Costco which beats most everyone for cost.
