New bills in Washington Congress - 01/29/03 04:20 PM

Here's just a couple; we need more guys like Oke.

SB 5062 by Sen. Mark Doumit (D-Cathlamet) and others would create an oversight committee to advise the Department of Fish and Wildlife on all aspects of fisheries enhancement in Puget Sound. The bill also would prohibit the department from using money in its recreational fisheries enhancement account "to backfill shortfalls in other state funding sources." Money in the account comes from sale of saltwater and combination fishing licenses.

SB 5258 by Sens. Mary Margaret Haugen (D-Camano Island) and Sen. Bob Oke (R-Port Orchard) would prohibit commercial bottom trawling in all marine waters east of Port Angeles.

SB 5208 by Oke would send annual resident adult saltwater and shellfish license fees to the state wildlife fund, the destination of other similar license fees, rather than to the state general fund.

SB 5207 by Oke would allow the state to charge $10 for every catch record card issued to a person after the first one. The initial catch record card is "free" with a fishing or shellfishing license.

Don't forget to let your opinions be heard by your state senetors and representatives. IF you need ingfo on contacting your senetors or representative use the following link. Click on your district and scroll down to find the email, phone and snail mail contacts for your district. Remeber that the sessions don't last that long and it is important to make your voice heard early in the process. Take a minute and tell what ya think! what State legislative districts map with links to your legislators
