So that's a Steelhead! I thought they were just mythical beasts spoke of in hushed tones in dark taverns. My efforts are starting to feel like snipe hunting lately!
I have seen fish with "shoulders" But are you sure that ain't a humpy! Nice fish man! And thanks for putting him back to make more football shaped babies. Hey CFM if you read this this is why we want to save are native steelhead and not replace them with 41"x.......17".......brats.
NO WAY!! That Steelie is HUGE!!! Thats all I need, I've been fishless for 5 months! Hopefully will tighten' up tomorrow, going to check out either the Kalama or the Cowlitz. GREAT FISH!!!
Biggest yet? 26.5# holy crap, Man it will be hard to beat that hog, but good luck trying. It's sooo big it doesn't fit on my screen & the picture weighs 10#. I caught one that big once..........in my dreams. Sweet.
A D pose, Yeah that fish took a little life out of one of my plug reels. It made 3 consecutive 30 yard runs and charges of the boat, all right on the surface. Slacklined us twice then jumped completely out of the water at the end of the third run. He made a couple of lesser runs as we tried to get him to shore. I geared my leader up to 15# from my usual 12# UG and I think that helped to cut the fight time and strain on the fish. It was still 10+ minutes.
As to the system I'd rather not say. If you put in your time on the coastal streams you might recognize it. I can't think of another spot that looks similar to it on any other river, and I cut the photo down for that reason.
Nice, very nice! And to know that fish will spawn to make more-----wow! Thats why ALL WILD FISH SHOULD BE RELEASED! No concrete pond on earth will produce a fish like that. And how many thousands of years did it take to produce genes like that?
