LOL...putting a picture of a Chum on this board is like putting a picture of a Honda on a Harley web-site. \:D

Beautiful chum, especially this late in the year.

BTW Are those fillets before smoking (or before brining) or after smoking (or after brining)?

They look too orange as compared to the raw fillets of chum that I typically catch.

goinfishin,

Would those nice red meated chums be from the Nisqually? That river has the best quality chums in Puget Sound.

Man, I've been hitting the Nisqually like you advised (the public fishing area right above the Mounts Road Bridge). Usually at least 10 people there. Kind of neat how you can park right next to the river. However, I have yet to get a hit, or see anyone land anything. What's the scoop---not a good place, or some days just have no fish?

Potaire,

work your way up that trail under the railroad bridge from the handicap area...there are some good drifts upriver....

not a bad place to go when you got a few free minutes, I got one the other evening. Nice fish

Re: Chum bum - 12/18/04 10:41 PM

Shaggy--go east on Mounts Rd from the I-5 exit. Road goes right over Nisqually after a couple miles. You can fish right there--you'll see the cars--but MPs might chase ya off. I myself have never been asked to leave. Or, continue past bridge another half mile or so, and turn left on 6th Ave. Road ends in a little public fishing park about another half mile down 6th. A million places to fish there--just walk around and cast away! The dirt roads continue upriver about a half mile or so, ending at a yellow gate for a private club campground. Some spots are crowded, some are not. Good luck!

Re: Chum bum - 12/27/04 10:10 PM

Potaire,

Thanks for the help. I will give it a shot. If you see some guy walking around down there with fishing gear, wearing nice slacks and shirt, that may be me.... Will stop in before work.

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 12:17 AM

HEY GOINTELLEVERYBODYFISHING, IVE BEEN FISHING ON THE NISQUALLY FOR MANY YEARS IN THE SPOT THAT YOU HAVE LET OUT.I WAS THE 1ST OR 2ND GUY TO START FISHING THERE FOR THESE BRIGHT CHUMS. SOME OF YOU GUYS MIGHT SAY THAT THERE JUST CHUMS SO WHAT WHO KNOWS ABOUT THE SPOT. BUT ITS KINDA NICE FISHING WITH JUST A FEW PEOPLE RATHER THAN 22 PEOPLE, LIKE THERE WAS THE OTHER DAY.SO YOU FELLOW PISCATORIAL FRIENDS, BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TELL ABOUT YOUR FISHING HOLES. ALL IT TAKES IS FOR ONE PERSON WHO LIKES TO TALK TO FIND OUT AND THEN YOUR FISHING HOLE BECOMES EVERYBODYS FISHING HOLE.

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 12:51 AM

Actually...fishdreamer.....I have a spot that I don't tell anyone about. If you think that "your" spot is a big secret...think again. If you are the guy that I think you are...you know I didn't let "your" spot out... By the way- "waaaaaaaaaaaa"

You are the kind of guy that lurks on this site but would never think of sharing any info......

Hey Fishdreamer!

First of all, how about losing the CAPS LOCK? As far as YOUR fishing hole goes...think again.

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 11:51 AM

fishdreamer, you're funny. I moved here in 1978 and this was first place I was shown to go fishing. It was popular even back then. My thought for this fishing hole is the more the merrier! I do appreciate your concern about publicity, but it is not very applicable for this spot.

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 02:38 PM

gonefishin,
I DO know where you are fishing and I might just have let all 6K menbers know so they can come tell you thankyou. Shut up and fish.

Must be awesome to have one particular spot and a river that nobody else on the planet has ever fished for all eternity!

good for you.......lol!

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 03:24 PM

What's funny is that the more you "secretive" guys respond to this post, the more attention it gets....It had already moved to page three before fishdreamer brought it up again...........

Re: Chum bum - 12/28/04 10:23 PM

To those concerned with "secret places" (fishdreamer) you'll notice I gave no more info than what a map would show---a public fishing area. I never would think of identifying an individual hole on this board.--mine, yours, or otherwise. I said "walk around and cast away", which is pretty darn non-specific. If anyone thinks that entire fishing parks are their own "secret place", they are naive beyond what I would think is possible, and need to take a serious reality check.
