Gregoire - Rossi Debate - 10/14/04 12:06 AM

Well, I just invested an hour that I will never get back watching these two. Can I get a do over?????

Man, these two make Kerry and Bush look like good guys. I was really hopeful that one would shine and earn my vote. They made John Carlson and Gary Locke look good.

Flip a coin, read a fortune cookie - I'm not sure how I will decide.

Gregoire seemed to me like she is part of "the camp" down in Olympia... a good ol' girl who probably wont be very effective in changing much in Olympia.

Rossi seemed to be pretty motivated to change our taxes and regulations, but didnt seem to organized. I thought his closing statement sucked. His statement ran along the lines of "Vote for me, ocne I am elected and I get into Olympia I will figure it out, come along for the ride."

I thought Rossi has been in Olympia for 10 years already as a state senator?

I noticed in the voter's pamphlet that Gregoire wrote in the first person; Rossi had his written for him. When the questionaire concerning sportsfishing that they both answered was posted (here or the other board), Gregoire had more relative answers; Rossi's seemed canned.

Although I realize the importance of bringing business and jobs to Washington, my fear is that Rossi will neglect the sportfishing industry and environment in favor of the commercial fishers and developers.

Harley I think you are wrong about Rossi when it comes to sports fishing support. I think it is Gregoire who comes across well for sports fishers but has the big guns in commercial fishing she has to be beholding to after the election because of their support in this campaign.

Harley and Eddie it should be a no brainer for you guys....Rossi is conservative and a Republican so he must be an evil man that you just could not in good conscience vote for.

Pesonally I am waiting until the Gregoire forum to see how she would convince the orchardists, irrigators and power company folks to support her. The Eastern Washington folks who use the Columbia River for business and don't care about fishing.

I know Rossi is for a balance which usually pisses off the liberals who want it only their way but I don't really know about Gregoire. I know Washington has a huge bureaucracy in Olympia that has been running this state into the ground for decades. I'd like to see a change of some kind.

On sportsfishing issues alone I support a bi-partisan list of candidates. For governor I am still undecided believe it or not. I can't deny a business bias and from that angle Rossi is the clear choice. From the fishing angle they both talk a good line but I am not convinced of the passion in their statements or their fundamental understanding of the fishing issues. But then most politicians don't have fishing on their radar screens at all.

Re: Gregoire - Rossi Debate - 10/15/04 02:24 PM

This state has had a democratic governer for too long. If you think Gary Locke has been good for the state, you'll probably love Gregoire as governer.

I believe Dino Rossi is someone that will make positive changes. I've met him and his family and having seen enough fake meet-and- greet "Hi, how the He!! are you?" politicians to be able to tell he's different in the sense that he's sincere man who wants to make a difference (not just to be top dog for the benefit of his own ego).

I'm willing to give him a chance.

One thing that bothers me about Gregoire is that as a former AG with alot of connections (political and finacial) to the TRIAL LAWERS ASSOC. During her campaign for governer, she's already accepted $500,000 in contributions from TRAIL LAWERS. The TL's don't give that money out from the kindness of their hearts.

One thing that concerns most is the rising cost of Health Care. The fact is that many of the frivilous civil lawsuits brought on by Trial Lawers (where they keep 30-50% of the settlements depending on the state) are not only increasing Malpractice insurance for doctors (even if they've never had a claim filed against them), they increase the cost of receiving Health care because Doctors are forced to practice defensive medecine. Defensive medecine is where doctors order a number of expensive tests (when they aren't really needed) to Cover Their A$$ if there is ever a lawsuit filed.

Another problem I have with Gregoire is her recent political ads (that she approved) that claims that she'll support Stem Cell Research, and that this could lead discovering a cure for spinal cord injuries, diabetes etc.....

Regardless of your views on Stem Cell Research:

One question, other than donating your own personal money towards research, how does a State Governer have any way to 'support' Stem Cell Research? She can't. She just making a false promise to the 'feel good' constituency that loves to hear about puppy dogs and rainbows. That alone tells me alot about her.

Why is it you always think that a republican is the answer, in case you had not noticed, the party lines have become increasingly blurred now a days. Simple plans for simple minds...............Fishy.

I still have an open mind on this one. Neither candidate has said anything to grab the lead or damage their position.

All I know is that I will vote for one of them. I will probably have to hold my nose though.

How do you figure?

I don't dislike Bush because he's a Republican..........but because he's a Republican who's completely disinterested in, and unwilling to listen to, any oppposing viewpoint.

This state has had a Democrat Governor for so long because the GOP has chosen to run the likes of Ellen Crswell against him. Not even a moderate Republican is going to vote for Craswell and there aren't enough fundamentalists in this state to carry a candidate like that.

I'm still undecided on this race......
