Re: 20lb silver - 10/19/05 03:33 PM

It appears as if you are about to let that monster swim away. Was he released?

Sweet fish. River looks to have that nice bit of color to it also.

Re: 20lb silver - 10/19/05 06:08 PM

Awesome fish.

I was fortunate enough last week to put an 18lb and 16lber in the boat.

Couple years back a friend put a 22lb hatchery silver in my boat. Also was weighed by two different scales because I wasn't believing my scale.

Hey OP, where's the Katlian River located. Is it in Alaska and is that where the fish was caught?

Re: 20lb silver - 10/19/05 08:51 PM

Very Nice Fish...A common theme between all trophy fish is the shoulders(and tail wrist). Smaller fish just dont have them. If I wasnt such a computer motard, i would post a pic of a 23lb silver. What was the girth on that Hooknose OP?? 20-22"? That would be a good one to mount, i mean replicate
On a bugrod too

OP, thats a beauty nate. Looks like you put him back into the gene pool. Great fish & a great pic.

Re: 20lb silver - 10/19/05 10:40 PM

I could only kill a fish like that if it took it in the gills and was going to die. The only fish I keep are when Im spoon fishing and one takes it and the hook hits the gills. (he went back)

the fight was Freaking amazing! the fish did everything it could to get away. I dont think I could do justice to how great a fight it was.

Awesome fish, OP. Looks like an easy 20 to me (the "20-pound silver" comment I made in another thread wasn't ment to include yours).

Re: 20lb silver - 10/20/05 06:12 PM

The look in that fishes eye says it all. He's pretty much snarling and saying "if I had arms I'd kick your a**."

One of the best pics posted here.

Re: 20lb silver - 10/20/05 06:32 PM

Yeah... he almost looks like one of those salmon cartoon characters with big arms and boxing gloves on...

His face would make a great logo for a hockey team or something....

The Chilliwack, BC "Fighting Coho"... heheh

Can you tell I'm bored @ work?? Is it 5 o'clock yet? \:D

your not going to give me i know it WAS 20 I HAD IT ON A SCALE AND IF YOU CANT BEAleave me to bad
Posted by: OPfisher

Re: 20lb silver - 10/20/05 10:53 PM

It's a big hatchery silver, no one's trying to take that away, but it aint 20. I've weighed fish bigger than that.

I'll give it to you if you're 6"4, and about 220
Posted by: eyeFISH

Re: 20lb silver - 10/20/05 11:16 PM

No disrespect SK, but I would have to agree with OPfisher and others.... nice teener, but that smoker ain't no 20. I've laid eyes (and hands!) on plenty of big silvers over the past 32 years. They need some serious shoulders and a big a$$ wrist to hit the 20 mark. Having just brought my first one over the gunnel this fall, I feel qualified to make that assertion with confidence. You're young, keep at it... I'm sure you will eventually prevail. When you finally do land that 20-plus monster, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Re: 20lb silver - 10/20/05 11:37 PM

Hey Doc,

Awhile back on another thread, you invited everyone to guess your avatar silver's true weight. Did you ever reveal it or did I miss it? Just curious, it's a dandy.
Posted by: eyeFISH

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 12:01 AM

Eric, you missed it a while back, but here it is again

That big hooknose tipped the scale at mere ounces shy of 20 pounds. A coho of that caliber is truly the fish of a lifetime. I've caught hundreds of silvers over the years, but this one was in a class of its own. I had to pause momentarily to pick my lower jaw up off the deck when I closed the bag on that fish.

Congratulations to Eric for the first guess that was right on the money! Easy E was right in there, too. Good eye you guys!

Wow, That fish isnt 20, but Doc's is!

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 12:44 AM

sk, go ruin someone elses thread, opfisher puts this sweet pic up of a definate 20lber, and u come in and try to show off ur 8lb boot, i dont want to see that, ur comment should be about op's fish on this thread not ur little boot, and are u sure that thing didnt read 9.5 i've seen trout bigger than that
Posted by: mreyns_tgl

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 12:55 AM

oh and by the way, op and doc those are some classic pics, big chrome broad shoulder silvers are some of the prettiest fish out there
Posted by: Weedhopper

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 02:02 AM

reyns_tgl- give the kid a break... no ruined thread, the beaut is still there for all of us to see!

Now as for size... how big do you think the 'nate I'm holding is? And yes, I AM 6'6" and weigh 240 lbs (Ron Bob & Canyon Man can vouch for that!) \:D
Posted by: micropterus101

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 02:27 AM

I wish I had a third arm to be able to take pictures like that. Nice 20#'r man.

Weedhopper, I have the same problem. I am 6'6 and 250's. have to hold them out to make up for my size.LOL \:\) I am guessing that fish is 18.5 pounds
Posted by: fishindude

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 02:39 AM

I'm gonna go with 15.5-17.5
Posted by: Sol

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 11:05 AM

I'll go with Doc. True 20-pound silvers are rare. The one below is my biggest this year. Looks big, but it's only 15 pounds. It's easy to pencil pencil in a couple more pounds when looking a picture.

I just noticed the chew in my front pocket. My wife thinks I quit. Guess I better be more carefull. ;\)

Weedhopper: I'm 6-5" and 240, too. I'll go with 16 pounds on your avatar pic.

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 11:26 AM

Someone needs a new scale.

I'm just sayin'............... ;\)

Re: 20lb silver - 10/21/05 11:54 AM

Crikey Sol, did you scrape that nasty green looking boot off of the spawning beds, or what? Did you have to fight off the eagles for that beauty? I see you scraped the fungus off for the photo. ;\)

Green. The fish is green.

Now, I have seen it all....

Had a tough go yesterday. Could only get one nook to bite on eggs all day! Ugh. The lack of fresh sea chickens killed us.

Plan B had us pickin up 4 nice nooks up on Kwikies and 1 coho for the clients.

After the trip was over, we went back out and whacked 2 nice cohos to end the evening (on eggs).

My gallon jar of eggs are curing up quite nicely, thank you! ;\)

There is a ton of not-really-wanting-to-bite B Run cohos in the NFL and a very few nooks. I do mean a ton of cohos. Unreal how many cohos were in the Swirl.

Sounds like Squatch1 was off his game. I guess I'll have to go down there and show him how it's done. \:D

Your prize?? Hmm.... Well... I don't even know how much that fish weighed.... caught it, snapped some pics, and let her go... didn't get out the leader to measure her up.... Oh well, I don't care... I was just wondering how big everyone thought that one was... it was a fun one for sure! \:D
