Milton,

I've never been taught (I guess you could say that) on how to fish for salmon or trout on rivers, so that's the reason for my lack of inexperience...

My dad and grandpa never fished on rivers, and they were the ones that got me started fishing when I was young, so I guess that's why I haven't spent any time on rivers...

This fall I managed to get out and get the basics down when my school schedule allowed me to, so I got out a couple of times in November...

I tried for some Chum late November on the Sky and I think the flooding whiped them all out...I managed to get one but I felt like an idiot with no clue as to what to do....I think I should have fished for them before the massive rainfall...

But yea I'm a big saltwater fishermen and trout fishermen though...

The opener should be fun/successful, but I've been fishing year round lakes every weekend now since mid-February and I've been doing really good, so if there were any lakes around your area that are open year round I'd give em a shot....

I'm heading out to Beaver this friday and saturday morning...I'll let you know how I did. I heard it got 11,500 planters last week and so I'd assume it's decent fishing, but the fish could be a bit small....

I've been spending most of my time in the past few months on Lone Lake on Whidbey Island though, so I haven't fished too much for trout around here....

I don't usually go fishing on "Opening Day." It seems to me that the lakes around Spokane are so crowded that day that you can literally walk across the lake from boat to boat. I've also seen a problem with crowds (on the water) that are either hung over or still drunk from the night before. To me, that's no place to be in an underpowered boat like mine. So, I just wait till the next (first) opportunity. I do, however, and still like, the Fisherman's Breakfast at the Fire House in Medical Lake. WHAT A FEED BAG. I'd go there just to eat and skip the fishing for a while.
Later,

Lotech,
It's kinda just about going out and basically "celebrating" opening day with some buds...

I'll hit Medical Lake on opening day. My partners will be with me. Big rainbows, big browns, and the occasional tiger. Lake does not get fished hard due to selective regulations and low density compared to other Spokane area lakes. Plus it's always fun to watch the game warden jack up the nonconformists!!!

I may change my mind. Due to selective rules. I hear the fines for using motors is big time expensive.

Re: What lakes are u fishing opening DAY? - 03/28/07 09:40 AM

Medical's situation is kinda strange....the WDFW allows for electric motors under selective regs but the city has signs prohibiting the use of any/all motors (joint administration that can be confusing). The city's intent is to keep Medical from becoming another West Medical, ie crowds, trash, noise, big motors, etc. After all it's the city's gem. I've seen the local PD issue a few citations. As is the case with most lakes, there will be a heavy police and warden presence the first week or so. Anyways, if you want to avoid the crowds try Medical, Amber or Coffeepot. all of which are selective reg fisheries that will see much lighter pressure on the opener and can provide for a quality experience.
