looking for quieter waters

i've been fishing out on lake washington quite a bit lately and am getting tired of rubbing shoulders with waterskiers, jetskiers and all others who feel the need to cruse by at full speed within thirty feet of me. does anyone know of some nice quite waters near by where i can fish with a bit more quite? i was thinking about Kachess and Cle Elem Lake, anyone fished these or have any other suggestions? i'd rather be on the water then in my truck so closer is better.

how far are you willing to travel? do you use an electric motor? what type of fish are you after?

narrow it down to what you are looking for and myself and others on this board can offer some good suggestions.

If what you're after is quiet water and don't mind a drive try kapowsin lake there's no place to launch anything big or jet ski's.

Believe it or not, Kachees and Cle Elum (both have large, popular camp grounds) will have the same Lk. WA problems on a sunny summer weekend. There is no escaping them. Just do what I do, keep a good supply of 8oz banana weights handy any case you get any fly-bys or close encounters of the PWC kind.

Rocks are a naturally occuring material usually found around lakes, which are much cheaper than 8 0z. bannana weights. They also shoot better from a slingshot, which coincedentally can fling a lit M-80 a considerable distance! I've heard this can happen with effective results.

hey carl and traut, i approve whole heartedly with your solution, just kidding, sort of.

i have a 15ft, fourty horse with an electic motor. so i guess i need a boat launch and a no motor restiction lake. if it was within an hour or 65 mile range that would be nice. i've looked on maps and washingtonlakes, but i can't tell how populated anything is. any suggestions are appreciated!

I haven't heard any reports lately, but Summit is supposed to have some nice fish. There are the usual ski boats / jet skis, but they do not allow that activity until later in the morning to give the fisherpersons a chance. Mason Lake is decent for all types of fish, but can be VERY busy on the weekend. Bst bet would be to hit these lakes during the week.

Most lakes, if you get on the water early, while PWC users are still nursing their hangovers, and get off the water early you should be OK.

Sushi...maybe you'll have to bite the bullet and take the gas motor off your boat.I know it's a pain but I take my 25 off all the time,it really opens up some new waters.In Snohomish county, there are 6-8 real good trout lakes that only allow electric motors.

Not all of these lakes are electric motor only,but they are small enough to have peace and quiet or have speed limits

Sushi, Come on up here to Silver Lake ( Whatcom) 9.9 hp max. No skier's or jet sled's. A real nice campground and if your a good guy I'll teach you the lake. Last Sunday there were 4 other boat's on the lake, it was tough but some how I managed to endure the peace and quiet. But make it quick before the weed's get to high and the water temp get's into the upper 60's and lower 70's. That is unless you like dragging a fly in the evening. With all these tough decision's to make I just don't know what I'll do this summer.

Most of Thurston County lakes have a 5 mph limit on them and the fishin is good, just a thought.

5 mph speed limit sounds nice and quite, that is something i'll definitly have to look into for those sunny saturdays. now i just have to find thurston county(i know pathetic, but i just moved back)

pelican, silver sounds great only problem is i have a fourty horse motor on my boat, as far as if i'm a good guy, who knows, some people think so. going fishing always sounds good to me.

There are some good lakes in Pierce county with restrictions to motors, speed limits etc...Ohop lake near Eatonville as a 5 mph speed limit except from 11 am to 3pm (who fishes at noon anyhow? ) The trout really go after a wedding ring tipped with crawler, or as it warms up a worm and bobber (shrimp oil on the worm :p ) works well too. There are plenty of trout,crappie,perch,brown bullhead and bass in the lake. Tanwax can be good too, but I don't think it has the restrictions that make a day of fishing more enjoyable. I've flat out killed 'em there with yellow power eggs...pink too..floated 3' off the bottom. It's also better bass fishing than Ohop.

I was on some quieter waters today. I was up on the Suiattle River about 20 miles back into the hills. There wasn't a soul around,just the birds and the bees. It was quiet today but when the weekend shows up it won't be. These far away places seem to draw people like magnets on weekends.

Here's one solution to skiiers who come too close! Told this true story couple years ago,but it's so
funny I gotta tell it again.
I waz fishing on a small float on Gravelly Lake near Tacoma in the 50's. The lake is very private and lined with million dollar homes, but we found access from a public road R/W and the float was near an undeveloped stretch.
I caught a couple nice trout in the early morning along with 3 Northern Pike Minnows of 2-3# which
I killed and had kept for the garden.
Fishing had slowed and I waz dozing on this float when a waterskiier gal came around at 40MPH and
cut in close deliberately dousing me with water. I watched her speed off and circle the lake again. It occurred to me that she may come back. I waz inspired by the dead Pike Minnows laying on the float curing in the sun. I thought to myself "if she comes around and does it again I'll just chuck a Pike Minnow (Squawfish) her way and try to discourage her". Well she did and I did.
I can still see the Pike Minnow I launched as if in slow motion sailing out in a gracefull arc.
Then there was this awfull WHACK as the Pike Minnow and water Skiier met at 40MPH.
She went down like a lead ball in a huge spray of water and didn't come up for what seemed
like ages. Finally as I started to strip down to dive for her, she came up spitting water, cussing,
and vowing to get her Daddy who WOULD kill me.
Well at that point the fishing had tapered off,so I decided to set a record rowing for the shore
and getting the heck out of there.
Couldn't have made that shot again in a million years.
Nevertheless don't try this at your home waters kiddies, the next Daddy may be faster.

Another good cure for those pesky punks on Jet ski's or other devices is t just huck a large bobber at 'em. They'll think its a bomb or something and they'll scram in a hurry. Imagine a 2" red globe approaching your head at 30mph!?!?!?!

I've also sent a 6 inch plastic worm flying in their direction with the hook point cut off and a 1/4 ounce bullet weight attached. The look in their eyes is quite satisfying!!!
