this is actually a good idea...

the muskies in mayfield and merwin are a highly underutilized resource.... tigers in east side reservoirs like evergreen (in quincy wildlife area) get a lot of attention but, unfortunately, the peak season for tiger muskies on this side of the mountains (August and Sept.) coincides with the best salmon fishing of the season and most sporties are focused on that kind of opportunity........

a tournament might get a few more sportfishers looking this way....

$1000 first prize with a one in twenty chance ain't bad odds, either.

I've always wanted to catch one of those bad boys in Mayfield.

The only ones Ive seen are mounted at the local tackle shops.

I have seen a duckling vanish in a splash though down by Trojan Island.

The great thing about fishing is you could be as lucky as the other 19 boats and get the $1000 fish. beer

I've shyed away from Mayfield ever since one of my friends drowned there. He dove off the Ike Kinswa bridge and performed a flawless double twist half gainer bellyflop.

Had an e-mail from Goerge at Mayfeild Resort last week. He said there are only 12 boats signed up for the tournament. My chances of winning are one in twelve.

I think you spelled that wrong. You're entitled to your opinion. To me, $100 to see old rock and roll acts perform for less than two hours is a waste of money. This costs you $50 for the day with chances of 3 in 20 for your boat to win $400, $600, or $1000. That still seems like pretty good odds to me, especially if you're good at catching these fish. Let's look at it this way - if you do fish the lake that day and you catch the $1000 fish but you haven't entered, I think your the one that's going to feel like a eek laugh

Re: Muskie Tournament Announced for Mayfield Lake - 04/10/06 12:19 PM

I haven't fished a tournament before. The high entry fee's and 100 boats competing seriously intimidated me. When I heard it was only $50.00 per fisherman and limited to a 20 boat field I figured this would be the place to get my feet wet. I've been catching Tigers on Tapps for 4 years now with a 4 footer being my largest. I know how to get them to bite so my chances are probably a little better than average of taking some money home. Even if I don't, my partner is my son so it will be a great day anyway.

Good luck to you Bill G. I take it you'll be doing a few trips down to Mayfield this summer to get the lay of the land?
