Lake Roosevelt - 08/09/06 07:55 PM

I am leaving for Lake R. late tonight and need some advice fishing. I usually use a spin bait with worm on the end and can catch walleye from the beach. I know there are smallmouth and rainbows in there, but can I catch them from the beach as well? I am staying at Hunters. No Boat.

Thanx

Our family reunion is held each year on Lake Roosevelt, south of Hunters. We have had good luck fishing for smallmouth off the shore. Best lures have been crankbaits, or jigs with tubebaits. Look for rocks, brushpiles, or snags and fish in front of them. Two weeks ago, the smallies and walleye were on the bite for the boat fishermen. Best fish in our camp was a 7 1/2 pound walleye. The lake was down then, and there was a lot of beach. Post a report when you get back. Good luck.

I have fished it a few times from shore and from a boat. The best luck on bronz is with a Rapala casting some what parallel to the shore and a fast jerky retrieve. When the water is low its a killer good luck.
