Calling in bears

Calling in bears - 08/08/03 10:54 PM

Anyone had much luck doing this? What calls? Are kitties a problem when calling?

I've been thinking of trying my cow call or maybe a pretator squeeler. Do they respond to this technique very well? How long and how often should you call?

Just missed getting a shot this morning 250 yards on a flat out run in the brush. 1 minute earlier and I would have gotten a look at him in the wide open. Was hunting South of Mt Ranier.....not much sign except for where I saw the one.

The last bear I shot was called in by a squal call.My freind had been telling me about this call and I told him that he was full of crap.well we got up into the spot and got positioned and he started just screaming with this call, he did it it constantly for three or four minutes.he stopped and we waited for about fifteen minutes and gave a few more calls, then we started to here this rustling in the bushes above us and out came this bear it was on a dead run for this clearing that we were in, it stopped and started sniffing around these bushes and thats when I took the shot,It was about fifty yards from me.well needless to say he turned me into a firm beleiver in calling in bears.that was the first and last bear I shot I didn't much care for the taste of it.I was told that bears that are taken up high in the berries are suppose to be better but I didn't like it.

Globall, how'd you do? Got a pregnant wife who had other plans for me today. I'll be out there next week at least once or twice.

Got a nice bear last year up in the high rock area.....too many weekend warriors for me up there this time of year, but I have found a new place not all that far from there that gets a little pressure, but no one ever gets out and walks into any cuts that are more than fifty yards from the road.

I'm driving a blue silverado with a canopy. If I see ya I'll stop and say hey.
