You're doing the right thing. If a bipod makes you a better shot,by all means get one. I can't see how that would make you unethical, unless you start trying 600 yd shots because you think your a sniper. laugh

I have a Stony Point bipod, it's the type that is not attached to your rifle. I really like it, it's short enough to be used from a sitting position, or extended all the way you can use it standing. It's great when the brush and/or grass is too high to allow you to lay down or sit down and get a clear shot. I haven't had the opportunity to use it to shoot anything yet, but my brother and cousin have both used it successfully, both fairly long range shots and both were one shot kills.

I use harris bipods...and they are light. They are up there in $$$ but well worth it.
I really don't use them hunting, maybe for coyotes. Use them most the time for target shooting. But I can see if I start hunting eastern washington more, they will come in handy.

Another vote for harris. Easy removal when you want to do some brush hunting. I love mine. Get the longer one. That way you can shoot from a sitting position. The short ones can only be used from a prone position or on top of something.

Bi-pods are unethical!!!!!!

Any device that helps you shoot straight like that should be outlawed.

OK, did that rile you up yet? smile

In truth, I love bi-pods. I ended up opting for a shooting stick instead because it just seemed more versatile to me. But I think I'll mmonitor this thread because I have a rifel I've been considering putting a bi-pod on....

Happy hunting.

Another vote here for the Harris Bi-Pod, I have one on my 300 Weatherby. In open country I always have it on the gun.

I use a Harris on my varmint rifles and also my antelope rifle.

Heard Stony Point had out a set of "shooting sticks" that might be even easier to use for shooting. Ones I saw were high enough to be used for a rest while shooting standing up.

Re: bipods - 01/08/04 01:24 AM

I hear all the time about how unethical those "high powered rifles with them high powered scopes and bipods and whatnot" are... laugh

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm gonna look into Harris pretty soon... After that I'll be good and ready with my rifle and I'll start workin on my bow beathead

Re: bipods - 01/08/04 11:06 AM

Thats cause you're talking to stubborn ol men who still hunt with an ol 25-30 or similar gun with iron sights. If you can drive nails at 300yds(just an example) and your gun carries enough energy out to that point for the animal you're pursuing than I say shoot if you have a good shot.

I know you're young Curtis but don't let them ol duffers get you down. They don't know it all.
Especially something they haven't tried.

Re: bipods - 01/11/04 02:29 AM

nah peri I'm talking about just getting it ready. Last couple years I've been putting in just enough money to get by, this year I have a little more so I'm hoping to do a little better.

HOPING to bowhunt for elk this year, have a few areas in mind, but like everything else, it all comes down to money and time.
