First off i should say that i do not hunt anymore, Now i have to ask, Why were they shooting at this lion in the first place?Very intense video, but, i guess i will never understand trophy hunting. Please don't flame, i will listen to your opinion also....

What a bizzare video...and I can't believe those crappy shots....and running towards a wounded animal, very smart!

The quality of the picture is pretty poor but, IMO, in the first shot you can see the fence. I would bet that its a high fence "canned" hunt operation.

I love it.

You know, I've been holding off on any guided hunts because if I film something (which i would), I don't want to look as dumb as those guys do.

Man, hunting the king of the jungle without the ability to shoot. Is that attempted suicide?

I still love it though.

Shooting critters that don't know enough to run or fight back. Yup, that's a challenge.

Some of us REALLY hunt, right guys:o)

Re: Lion video - 03/01/04 03:11 PM

I saw this video at the Harrisburg, PA sportsmen show Feb. 14, 2004. The word was that the lion had been suspected of killing some locals and one of the area game wardens went to check it out. The lion killed the warden and the horse he was riding on.
That was not a trophy hunt according to the outfitters. They were trying to rid the area of nuisance lion that started to like easy the pry of unsuspecting humans.

If you check out the slow motion portion real close you'll see a bullet hit the ground about 3 to 4 feet in front of the guys head that was knocked down.

See the fence in the background... This is a canned hunt. The king of beasts in the wild would never have acted like this lion. He would not let you walk up and just shoot him. Yes, the charge is impressive. Amazing how fast he covered the ground. Too bad such a fine creature had to die that way... Backed into a corner of a fence and shot up by a bunch of crackers. A lion that nice is a magnificent trophy and not that easy to get.
This vidio has been around for a while and I have seen it on three other sights.
In Africa ther are many places where the lion is gone. Shot out because of cattle ranching and raising of other domestic animals.
Did you guys know that in RSA all you need is 450.00 US and you can attend 10 days of class and become a certified PH. Be careful who you give your money to. Do lots of homework.
Not tring to start anything on canned hunts. To each his own... This vidio is not fair chase. To me,I just choose not to partake. I do believe you can have a fair chase hunt if the area is large enough. Say maybe... 50,000 acres. If you go to South Africa, much of it is fenced. There are outfitters that are buying up land and tearing down the fences and they provide a quality hunt. I am shopping to go, but I think I am going to Zimbabwe.

NICE ELK !
