Precision Bullet Sabots - 09/03/06 06:09 AM

Anyone have any experience with PR Bullet sabots? They are famus for the "Dead Center" sabots.

Ive been working up a load with the .44/50 cal 300grn QT. sub 1" groups all day long at 100yds with 120grn 777 FFG. Thats with open sites from a bench.

I purchased a T/C black diamond this sping and have experimented with many different sabots. best groups I was getting with anything else was 4" at 100yds. Im a pretty good shot and wasnt very impressed with the performance.

I reccomend them to anyone.

You can check them out at www.prbullet.com. They have balistic charts on the site.

They are an all lead bullet with a ballistic tip so they are legal in washington.

Thanks for the tip. I have the same gun and haven't had much luck with any bullets I've tried in it. About the same as you...4 inch groups at 100 yards. I'm wondering if Sportsmans Warehouse has that bullet. I noticed the other day they had some of the PR bullets.

Sportsmans has them.

Like I said I am very happy, 1" groups not a problem once you find the right powder charge. I havent tried the other bullet weights or calibers. A friend told me to try the .44 cal bullets with my 1/28 twist gun. He shoots the .44/50 260grn with a 130grn 777 FFG charge out of a knight 1/28 twist inline and got the same results as I did. He has tried the .45/50 340grn and .44/50 300grn with excellent results as well. He has been shooting the orange tip "Dead Center" but I found that the blue tip "QT" shoot just as good. ]

When I worked a load with the bullet I started at 100grn 777 and then went to 110grn 777, I was getting 1" groups as 50 yrds. I went to 120grn 777 and started getting one hole 3 shot groups as 50 yrds. I was happy with that.

So how's the recoil with that load? Sounds like it might be just a bit painful on the shoulder! How many times are you able to shoot without cleaning the bore? Or do you always swab between shots?

I swab with a wet and dry patch after each shot on the range. but I have found that after about 4 shots accuracy starts to suffer if you dont swab.

It kicks like a mule with that load. I have the factory pad on it now but am going to upgrade to a limbsaver. With a tshirt folded up between the but and my shoulder I can do about 10 shots before the pain gets to bad.

If you were planning to hunt in WA, check your regs. Sabots are not legal to hunt with.

I don't see any reference to sabots not being legal for hunting. As long as a lead projectile is used, not a jacketed one, the sabot loads are perfectly legal the way I interpret the regs. Bill

Sabots ARE legal as long as you use non-jacketed bullets.

Sabots are very legal to hunt with. I have ran into many people that think they are not but they are.

per the regs: for big game a single non-jacketed lead projectile of nominal 50 caliber or larger, or fire a single non-jacketed lead projectile of atleast 170grains.

They put the atleast 170 grain lead projectile in there to alow Sabots. Basicly they dont want you shooting any other big game than deer with a rounball so thats where the 170grains comes in.
