archery deer/elk late hunt - 10/24/06 07:16 PM

ok im in a pickle. my late deer and elk season are during the same time.

im hunting east side elk and i cant seem to find anywhere that is open for deer at the same time. on the east side anyway.

elk is far more important to me then deer

so my question is...are there any units open for both deer and elk on the east side during the same time frame. i would like to hunt the cascades,

thanks alot

Hey there deerslayer....I know the regs are a little confusing sometimes so here you go bud. You actually have 4 units to choose from:

1) Little Naches (346)
2) Nile (352)
3) Rimrock (364)
4) Cowiche (368)

For elk you can shoot a spike or antlerless, and for Mule Deer you can shoot either a 3pt or antlerless.

Hope that helps.

Deerslayer, I've hunted the 346 unit for about the last 30 yrs and if I had the choice that would be it. If there is more than 12 to 18 inches of snow stay down by bald mtn, the northern boundryrd is 1701. If not much snow then head up to Ravens roost or the sand creek area. I drew the Entiat b tag or I would be up there Thanksgiving weekend.

thanks alot. time for the maps and scouting this area.

my dad and uncle use to hunt these areas when they were my age. never got an elk other then one cow.

time for me to take over and show them old farts how its done.

btw i'll be at it alone sence my hunting partner (new to hunting this year)isnt to into the elk hunting and hiking that i do. its just to much for him i guess.

so my ?

should i find another partner for this late season, which is my first time late hunting elk, and being the weather that can hit at any moment, or should i be fine. im not worried about being stuck anywhere as long as i can get to my truck. just kinda concernd about roads. how are they?? with snow?? i have a 4x4 saburban that shouldnt make any snow no problem depending on the roads.

anyway thanks for the info, any more is much needed. maybe pm me

thanks
