44mag lever actions?

looking to buy a new brush busting rifle. cause my enfield 303 jams on me all the time now.

i ws looking at either a marlin or winchester 44mag, or 30/30.

how acurate at the 44mags? out to say 100yds at the most...

i was thinking about that. the only reason i picked the 44mag was cause i hunt with a ruger 44mag and have a cases of ammo for that already. also 30/30.

what are the adantages of either marilin or winchester over the other?

i know that marlins are easier to put a scope on it wanted. but are there any other advantages over winchester?

I have one of the Ruger Deerfield carbines in .44 Mag. (the 239th one to roll off the line) I get 2" groups with it at that range with a 2-7 power scope at 100 yards when I put one on, and with the stock peep sights, 2" groups at 50 yards. Both with 300 grain XTP bullets loaded close to max. Hornady custom ammo in the 300 grain range also works well. It will never be a tack driver, but certainly accurate enough.

Great little brush gun, and I never felt undergunned out to 100 yards. It has claimed two deer, and both boys will likely use it to get their first deer. Same size as a 10-22, very compact, and VERY quick in deep woods. I got a stock extension for me from Midway USA, but it works great for the boys as is..

ah yes i have looked into those rugers. they look like great little guns. but i have not found one new anywhere...and i really want to buy a new gun if its gonna be my brush gun. just to make sure there are no problems with the action and sights.

i beat the crap out of my sporterized enfield 303 brit. using it to knock branches and sticker bushes out of the way. never using the barrel of course. only the butt section of the stock. i refinished it really nice last year and havent used it sence. cause the action jams alot and dont want to take the chance of having it jam when the time comes for a fallow up shot. (if needed)

I have the marlin 44 mag
this gun is a lot of fun, easy on the shoulders.
great out to 100 to 150 yards tops.
most brush shots are under 75 yards anyway.
Bought it about 5 or 6 years ago no complaints from me.
Also like the fact that same rounds fit my pistol.

I compaired the winchester to the marlin
thought the marlin had a better looking stock
And didn't feel cheap. nothing against winchester.

yup thats one of the things i like about getting a marlin or winchester in 44mag. i can take my 44mag pistol and rifle just that simple. no need to worry about forgeting other ammo or having to buy 2 different calibers if i forget all my ammo for my other guns.

The Marlins have excellent fit and finish, plus no slop or rattle in the action. Winchester, not so much.

I own a Marlin 336 .30-30 and a Winchester Model 1894 .30-30. The Winchester was manufactured in the 1930's, and in my opinion has a much smoother action, a better trigger, better wood, and a handier design for putting it on my shoulder quickly than the Marlin. That being said, the newer (1980's and newer) Winchesters are not much different than the Marlin as far as I'm concerned with fit and finish. I prefer the winchester grip. The Marlin and newer Winchesters both take a scope well, and have adequate accuracy, so you probably can't go wrong with either. With the new leverevolution ammunition, I think I would go with the .30-30 over the .44.

I have the Marlin model 1894-P in .44 mag. I love it, smooth action, light to carry and I have put 2" groups @ 50 yds. shooting off hand with it with factory ammo. I also have a Blackhawk in .44 mag so it is nice to carry both with the same box of ammo.
Next one will be the 45-70 stainless Guide gun. Just have to ifnd where I put that extra $$$$ that I buried........

i never baught one.

i just carried my redhawk 44mag as my brush gun. i did have an old enfield 303 britsh that was spoterized. but the action got very sticky so i sold it.

next year im buying a tikka t3 big boar in 30-06...that is if i rifle hunt next year. i think im switching over to archery for good. there to many rifle hunters in this state for my liking.
