The blacktails come into esterous a little earlier than the deer east of the mountains. Back when I was chasing local bucks the rut was usually well under way by Halloween and the end of November was getting late.

I believe the Rut here in western wash happened earlier then normal for whatever reason. Myself and the guys I hunt with started getting very nice rutting bucks by the second weekend of the regular rifle season. All nine of us got bucks that were at least 3 points with a couple going close to 200lbs. Also we weren't seeing the bucks standing stupid as traditionally we usually always see the first week of rifle elk season.
