A Very Busy Man

A Very Busy Man - 02/12/12 08:54 PM

A fellow I know has been very busy hunting.
I've been around quite a bit and know a number of "heavy hitters" in the big game hunting community.
This is one of the best lifetime compilations of trophy big game to be found anywhere, better than most Cabelas's stores.
Both the size of the trophies and the taxidermy quality is truly exceptional.
Knowing guys like this keeps me humble.

I wish

How does anyone have that amount of time and money. Must not waste alot of time in boats.

Wow....I need a different job just to have the time to hunt that much.

Almost forgot about the money. grin

The double pedestal mount of the cape buffalo is awesome.

Reminds me of the show down in the movie Road House. Maybe Patrick Swayze is mounted in there somewhere. laugh

If I had that kind of money I'd spend it on something else. No offense meant, but at some point there is a time to stop.

I was wondering when someone would freak out over that.

They are reproductions made with legal feathers.

When you get up close you can tell they are fakes.

Quite a collection indeed.
So when a guy has that kind of variety in his collection, how much credit goes to him, and how much credit goes to guides that put him on animals?

I'm a do it yourself guy 99.9% of the time.
I've been on some very good guided hunts, but not many.

The guy is a very good hunter with the most stunning Colombian Blacktail collection I know of.

He killed all of them on his own.
Many of the animals in his collection were taken in states and foreign countries where guides are mandatory.

I have other friends with lots of money and big collections that aren't so good at DIY hunts, I'm sure that they wouldn't have much to brag about if it weren't for the dollars they spent hiring guides to find their animals.

I certainly am the first to give WAYYYY more credit to a do it yourselfer as they are TRUE hunters.

Me too. I did notice that he seemed to have a lot of either muley or blacktail mounts, and that's certainly possible for a guy who knows his game. When I see exotic game from different continents, it seems unlikely the "hunter" can really know those animals.
But when a guy has as many mounts as that dude, he must have learned something about finding game.

never shot a buck as nice as any of those. Greatest hunt ever was watching my little girl get her first doe and second was watching her make the shot on her first buck. Nothing I have done will ever compare. Look forward to my boys first Bull.
