10/22 project - 06/22/12 10:21 AM

The boys bought a 10/22 with money they earned working for me this spring. We tuned it up a little bit.

A smaller suppressor is on the way.

Thought about rolling one of those too. You seen the stuff from Kidd?

Yup. They make good stuff. Tossing in a Volquartsen trigger upgrade once all parts arrive, along with a "bolt hold open" device. Need to change the radius on the rear of the bolt and add a recoil buffer.

It will be one sick little silent killer.

That top pic looks like what I have.

That bottom pic looks like what I want.

Same here. Or similar. I bought one on sale and stuck it under a bed waiting for time and money.

Pretty simple, just a screwdriver, allen wrench, and level. (A little money, too.)

Me want that! Nice work Andy! My Dad taught me the value of cleaning your weapon, but it would have been fun to do some of the mods I see folks doing on the innerwebz with him when I was a kid.......to his credit, I think he was too busy replacing all of the windows on the house I shot out with my BB gun.

Always wanted to go to a dump and go rat hunting at night. That unit might be the ticket. God I hate Rats

Turned in the check to the BATFE today for the new suppressor that is color matched to the OD green barrel. The black one weighs in at 28 ounces. The replacement weighs in at 8 ounces.

Art, it would be a good jackrabbit gun.

12 ga slugs is the only choice for Nevada Jacks. Just waiting for the next population explosion and we're all over it. Nothin like a cloud of bunny feathers.

Youtube rocks. Installed the VQ target hammer and sear, bushings and shims, auto bolt release, plus changed out the hammer, sear and trigger return springs. Then I "re-radiused" the rear of the bolt using 120 grit paper on my belt sander, after which I polished the bottom of the bolt (where it contacts the hammer) on my diamond stone, plus I polished the new radius as well.

Dang that trigger is light. Be interested to put it on a trigger scale. I'd wager it is 2lbs or less.

I've never been a fan of 10/22 or Mini 14 in all their fugliness.

This rebuilt 10/22 changes my mind.
Very well done, DF.

Brought it out to Stam's today. It is a fun piece. Off the shelf they are pretty utilitarian. They'll shoot thousands of rounds and be reasonably accurate as-is.

Bases gun + tax runs around $220 on sale. The rifle as completed, without the $1,000 suppressor attached adds:

$260 for barrel.
$150 for trigger group and bolt upgrades.
$75 for stock.
$50 for cheap red dot.
$35 for Picatinny rail.

I also bought a color matched titanium suppressor for it, so including tax stamp, that little diddy will be another $500.

All-in, it will be a $1,300 tack driving silent son of a bitch once the final suppressor arrives. Need to get some better glass for it though.

DF, I don't know if you have the ammo picked out yet, but the CCI Subsonic hp's are money in my 10/22 & just about any gun I've shot them in.

Took out some good sized ground squirrels @ my moms place in MT last month, all 1 round head shots.

Winchester and CCI Subs work well in this rifle. Remington subs, so-so.

The "CCI quiets" don't cycle the action, but they are scary quiet through a can. The gun becomes a "straight pull" bolt action with them.

I enjoyed the rat hunting vid.....used to do that at the dump. Back then we were not very technical in what we used....:)

I'm curious.....how was the video made? Any ideas?

Snypercat is reportedly a former military sniper. If you watch her rat sniping vids, you'll see she has some skills. Here's her NV setup video for those that can't hunt for themselves.... wink
