Varget - 07/13/14 11:34 PM

I picked up a Kimber 22-250 that likes Varget according to the previous owner. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone knows of some I would like to get my hands on a jug.

Welchers in Tacoma is probably your best bet. The Oly area is kind of a black hole for reloaders anymore.

The .22-250 also shoots well with a lot of your other .308 powders. The intersting thing about this powder shortage is that I've ended trying a lot of powders I wouldn't have normally used.

4895 and 4064 seem to be readily available if you can't get your hands on Varget. WIN 748 too. That should at least get you going. If you need some brass, let me know. I have a ton and I am just down the road from the Oly/Tumwater area.

It's about the only powder I can get down here. My Ruger target 22-250 realllly likes it.

Do you have BiMarts up there? That's my source down this way.

No that I know of. My mom lives in Newport, how far away is the BiMart?

Have heard good things about Reloader 15 pushing light/moderate bullets in the .308 parent case. Perfect for the 22-250.

Bimart in Aberdeen. $22-25/lb. Haven't seen any Varget, but I have picked up plenty, over 20lbs, of powder this year including 4064, 4895, 4831, h110, 4227, trailboss, HS-6, and others. I'm there regularly.

Also Dennis company in Elma, Monte, and Aberdeen are good sources for powder, as they get shipments regularly, but you need to be there within a day or two of delivery. $25-29/lb. Mainly 4064 and 4895.

The loads I was given with the rifle are a 52gr James Calhoun dbl hollow pt behind Varget and CCI BR2's. I'll hit ya up for the Reloader 15 offer if I can't find any. I got laughed at six different times yesterday,on my way to Riggins, asking for Varget and H380.

KD, what about ordering online?

Re: Varget - 07/21/14 02:16 AM

The issue with ordering on line is hazmat, $27.50, plus additional shipping. I picked up 16lbs of lil gun earlier in the year, but that is about the minimum order I would do online. I usually order 32-40lbs to minimize the impacts of hazmat+shipping. Same with primers, I'll usually order 20,000 minimum. Otherwise, you might as well get raped at gunshow prices.

Kingdog, wish I was closer to you, or had a means to get it to you - just checked yesterday and my nearest Bimart had two bottles.

Maybe Kingdog's Bimart can do an "inter-store" and get the Varget shipped north ?

Twitch, which BiMart was it? I had my mom check Lincoln City and it was a no go. Thanks for looking out.

Philomath (aka 53rd street Corvallis)
Does your mom make it over to the valley very frequently? I may be able to grab some and hold it for ya and she could pick it up.

She does often. If you pick it up I will send a check promptly.

Rl-15 is all I use in my 22-250. Varget works too. KeeP your eyes on cabelas. Powder has become a real haste. Stock up if you can. Like dogfish...I don't do the research like I use to. I use what I have on hand. My last couple 22-250s were very tempramentle, but what worked..really worked good. Varget with a 52gr Speer hollow point. Not TNT. RL 15 and a 55vmax is my rodent load, and RL15 with a 60 Sierra hp for dogs.
