Every once in a while an elk gets to enjoy a human burger.

I watched an archery Elk hunt video last night. These guys shot a decent bull right at last light. The bull was hit with a high spine shot but was nowhere near close to dead and was still able to move & crawl around quite a bit. These guys proceeded walk right up to it and shoot it with a couple of more arrows at point blank range. Like 2 foot shots. The whole time I'm yelling at these idiots to step back about 10 yards. You want to get gored? Cuz' that's how you get gored. They also had a cougar come in 3 times to push them off that Elk while all of this was happening. It was nuts and so much could have gone wrong.

I have been stalked by a big cat and had a momma black bear and her cub want to play. In the same day.
Turns out bears are very familiar with the racking of a pistol and got out of there fast, taking down every jack fir in its path.

Scary chit.

That could have ended bad for those guys. Like "cat food bad" if that bull got up.

He bought a garden variety Bull Elk tag.
He should not have been monkeying with Badass Bull Elk.
That's a different tag.

I keep thinking that the initial "hit" must have been pretty poor as the bull survived overnight, killed the guy, and took off.

Absolutely the case. As a beginner bow hunter, I wince at seeing Hail Mary bad shots. If the shot is not there, it's just not there.

I can't wait for Sept 12th and hopefully a good shot!

Elk seem to bring out the worst in hunters. Guys I bowhunter with, who would wait until deer were close, shot at elk at over 100 yards. Now, it is true that Saxton Pope and Arthur Young both shot at deer, and killed them with longbows ate over 1000 yards, but don't see it.
