Binoculars

looking to invest in a new pair of binoculars,I would like to hear your pros and cons on the ones you own,I also wear eye glasses and have noticed some difficulties with some different models and trying to get them focused.I'm leaning towards a pair of steiners or Zeiss.opinions will be appreciated.

Zeis are better than the Steiners, but will usually run more money. Cabelas has some older models of Zeis for about $699, a great deal for some very good glass.
If you want the very best, and don't mind spending some bucks go with Leica. I have a pair of the 8x32's and they are better than anything of the same size I've ever looked through, and I tested them all before I shelled out the bucks. If you want the big stuff (high power) the 15x56 Swarovski's are also excellent - but make sure you get a tripod adaptor. If you don't you will get dizzy and not gain the benefit of the power/clarity. I bought a set last year for blacktail hunting and they were worth the money.

Loomis, I'd try out as many as possible. I lost vision in my master(right) eye some time ago and I still find the glassing a hugh advantage over guys who just walk around hoping to see something.
I use a compact Ziess. I can't hold anything steady anymore but I think 8 power is about as high as most can hold without a rest. Check out the light collection of them all. Some look good in mid-day that aren't worth a darn at first light or dusk.

Like anyplace some items are higher priced but overall its hard to beet them on hunting supplies and clothing.Pretty good selection also.

I own a pair of Zeiss 10x40's and a pair of Swarovski 8x32 and I will say that they are both great glass. Swarovski has just come out with a new coating process that is really exceptional as far as light gathering. Huntar is right--Cabelas has a great deal going on them right now @ 699.00 it's pretty had to get hurt on those, I paid more 7 years ago! I would definitely stay away from Steiners though--I spend alot of time looking through my glass and everyone I know (guides) has had problems keeping the barrels aligned on their Steiners-go with Zeiss Leica or Swarovski and I guarantee that you will never be disappointed.

I hunted for 20 years using only cheap binocs (never more than $35, that's all I could afford). I finally bought a pair of Steiners about 6 years ago. I know that the Steiners probably don't compete with Zeiss, Leitz, etc for optical quality, but you can pick up a pair of Steiner Safari's for about $200. If you have $800 you want to spent on Zeiss, I'm sure you won't be disappointed in their quality. If, however, those Microsoft stock options haven't come thru for you yet, I can tell you that I am one satified Steiner customer. My elk hunting partner finally bought Steiners this year after seeing the difference my Steiners made the last several years....

If you can afford them, go with Swarovskis. If not, I can't say enough about fujinon.

I am also looking to get a new pair of binos this offseason and am leaning towards those zeiss in cabelas. I was told that there is a generic bino that is just like leica just doesnt have the name. Anyone else hear of this ? Supposedly same quality at half the price probly too good tobe true.

I have a pair of compact Zeiss 8X20 that are great. Not the best light transmission in dark conditions, but that is only because of the size. They are tiny and light which is great when stalking (I wouldn't have shot my 5X5 muley without them last fall). I also looked to purchase a larger pair of Zeiss, Swarovskis, or Leicas but could not justify the price at the time. Instead I bought a pair of 8X32 Bushnell that are guaranteed 100% waterproof with a 10 year warranty. They have been great. Good light transmission and very clear. I can't see much of a difference between these and the top money glass that friends own. I thought that I lost the Bushnells during a move and replaced them with comparable Bausch and Loumb glass with the same warranty and found out that one manufactures the other. Since then I have found my other glass and now have three pair. If these ever fail, I will go with Zeiss or Swarovski.
