which line is best??? - 02/24/00 08:49 PM

I have tried several different lines from the braded fireline to regular mono for my spinning real, which line out there is the best. I'm really looking for a mono line that doesn't shoot off the spool if you no what i mean! one that doesn't have a memory!! please give me some suggestions.

SOUNDS LIKE ITS TIME TO BUY A BAITCASTER. ON THE RIVER I USE TRILENE XT GREEN FOR MAIN LINE AND MAXIMA CHAMELEON FOR LEADER. IN THE SALT I USE STRICTLY CHARTER-BOATMAN WHICH IS A REAL LIMP LINE AND GREAT FOR PULLING A FLASHER BEHIND A DOWNRIGER. BUT I ONLY USE SHIMANO LEVEL-WINDS.

Sounds like you need some limp stuff. I use Ande for mainline and feel that is pretty limp. Or maybe try some Trilene, either BigGame or XL. I also read in a fish mag that you can remedy your problem by filling the spool up, secure tag end with a rubber band, then soak it in warm water.

P.S. also don't overfill the spool, this may cause the line to "shoot off" the spool as you described.

Peace Out....

For my Shimano Stradic 1000, I use 6lb Stren Magnathin Clear. I have used this line for a little while and it has gave me no problems.

I fish spinning reels on my jig rods and have tried quite a few lines and my favorite, and the only one I'll use now is Excaliber made by Silver Thread. Very little memory, low stretch, excellent abrasion resistance, thin and strong!

jigman,
Have you ever tied spinners straight on Excalibur, just wondering if it has a little better line-twist resistence than my brand, Izorline, I don't like tying on a barrel, so I usually free-float my line just before it becomes annoying, about 50 cast.

Hey Seadog, who makes the Charter-Boatman line you were talking about? I've the best luck with Berkely Big Game myself.

I also fish mostly baitcasters and on those I use Ande 10 to 14 depending on the location i.e. the coast or smaller streams,on my shimano spirex i use the Ande flouresent green in 8 lbs the color makes easy to keep track of when float fishing, comes off smooth and the price is the killer. In the past I've used trilene XL not bad but I like the ande better....

DAVID, Charter-boatman line is made by Yakima bait co. It comes in a sealed clear plastic container. The line pulls out from the center of the spoolrather than the side. Ive used big game also but I prefer charter-boatman.

try using G-Power from Gamakatsu. its very low diameter compared to other lines, has low stretch and is very strong. I use clear mostly but use hi-vis green for plugs and floats. It also comes in smoke. It tends to be a little more money but you can save if you order it from Bass Pro Shops or something. (Our local retailers are getting rich off their mark-ups.) also make sure you tie "clean" knots with any line you use.

I guide on the local rivers and i use izorline. it is very strong for its size and works good on spin and bait reels. the best part of it is its reasonably priced.

I went out today with a new spool of Maxima
ultragreen and I know what you mean about line shooting off the spool.
Glad to know it wasnt just me..*L*
Spent too much of the morning untangling it..
Think I`ll stick to izor line, haven`t had that problem with it and just use the rest of that maxima for leaders..*L*

Rainycity that's my only gripe with Maxima. It's the greatest for leaders, but in my opinion, too stiff for mainline.
