Hey, i heard a story from my neighbor whom told me that when he paid a guide to fish on the quillayute the guide was regularly using a chain...for a drift anchor..neighbor said it worked real good..anyone use one for some positive results?..any ideas or stories welcome.

Dragging a chain anchor, a bag of rocks, or an inner tube full of rocks is a great way to destroy spawning habitat, or worse, the eggs that are already deposited on the river bottom...

On another note I taked to a chap who had 1 on his Super Puma, word was it worked well for regular anchoring duties with what he stated was a smaller chance of getting it wedged into the river rock......

OK duly noted..how bout say the lower skagit?..which is a sandy bottom..and generally considered the lower river where little or not spawning takes place... drifting the river could be accepted?..or not as harmful?..feedback is appreciated.

On the skagit back in the day... before kickermotors... thats what was done.... no since doing it now w/all the kicker motor/electric options...

The Chain anchor is huge on the Yakima in the Lower Canyon. It works well there beacuase the river bottom is full of sharp/small rocks. My lead anchor barely works over there, it is either stuck and a bi@tch to pull, or it barely slows me down. The way the bottom is in that section of river, the chain anchor actually stops the boats, MUCH better then my 30 lb. lead anchor. I could see using one where there is very little chance of destroying spawning habitat, like the Lower Canyon on the Yak.

I've seen it used on a few rivers,never understood it.Good luck,
