There are no fish out there, that are worth going out in 13 foot seas to try to catch.....My prayers are with all the people.

Do people have no common scense anymore. What are 22 and 23 ft boats doing 20+ miles offshore in 13' sea's especially this time of year when the weather can change at a moments notice from fishable to fighting for your life.

I just listened to the audio of the distress call on the Kiro link, pretty intense. My neighbor is fishing up there today with some buddies, I hope he's okay.

There's few things in this world worth dying for.

I'm pretty sure fish aren't one of 'em.

13' seas?

The SW or SSW winds seems to bring out the worst in La Push. Same goes for Blue Dot or the Rockpile or Swiftsure. Good on the charters that put catching on hold to help some fellow anglers.

I got some buddies fishing out of La Push too. I hope they are all ok. I doubt they would go out in 13' seas, but on the other hand, the weather forecast often isn't correct and if the bar was open and things were manageable at the start, they could well have been out when things turned to crap.

A lot of the guys that fish out there have a real passion for halibut. The short season and a start date in the fickle month of May for weather can make for some tough decisions on whether to stay or go.

I will pray for everyone tonight.

As a kid, I watched my Grandfather and his buddy pull 2 out of those waters back in the early 60's. That has always stuck in my mind and feel for those out there today.

I just got back from our PSA meeting and heard about this from a phone call from a buddy that was at LaPush. Then I get home and listened to the video on kiro, sends chills up and down my spines. Why they don't open this season later for better weather makes no sense, it forces us to take risks that we normally wouldn't.

I know, I have done this too......I send my condolences to the families involved.

Last year at Lapush.
I was scheduled to go too tomorrow, but work situations caused me to cancel my vacation. Looks like a good thing.

Absolutely the state needs to open this fishery later when there is a better chance of good weather. But the state is not to blaime for people making the choices to push the envelope and fish in unsafe conditions. These same conditions could happen in july and boats would still go charging out. In no way should a 22 foot boat be 28 miles offshore under those conditions. I am sure it didn't help that there was money on the line. This is a tragedy that could have been averted if only common scense would have been used. Thank goodness for the 2 charter boats and the coast guard or there may have been more deaths.

It's eerie listening to the distress call and the exchange between the coast guard and the other vessels involved in the incident. Many times out at swiftsure we will hear only the coast guards voice as the sport vessel will be out of range.

i was just paitently waiting for my freinds to return a call that they were safe...they just did...they were in a 22 foot boat and were 3 of em, one older...i was worried it may be them...thank goodness it was not...too erie...my sadness to the families that were struck...its hard to listen to distress calls like like...we were in seiku last year when a wife of a man having a heart attack was calling the coast guard, we were all in tears...sometimes its hard to imagine...you can only try to be safe....c

My grandpa has been fishing there for over 40 years. He emailed me ahead of time and said it was not going to be good out there. He would not of gone out. He has a lot of common sense and respect for the big blue. Unfortunately others are lacking. I feel for the families, but really is it worth it. Trudge 3 hours out through that crap for one measly fish. No way man.

I do agree that something needs to be done about these seasons. For christs sake. All the other fluffy bunny laws this state has fabricated to "protect the stupid". You'd think this would be a no brainer.
