I have a 17' River Wild, 6' bottom 6 degree bottom.......does excellent in "skinny water", not so good with any chop on the water.

If Bay and Columbia was your primary area......go 12 degree!!!!

If you are searching for something for big water there are a few boats you should seriously consider.

Prop only, look at a custom built Alumaweld Blackhawk center console or the brand spankin' new North River Osprey.

Prop/Jet look at the Alumaweld Columbia. My two cents, I might be a little biased wink

Blackhawk: 18 degree, rides like a champ.

Columbia: 14 degree, convertible jet/prop dependent on your fishery.

Osprey: Variable degree 42 entry, 18 at stern. Heaviest hull.

Is the bay and the Columbia going to be your primary use? That boat will require you to slow down when it gets choppy out but should be safe. If that is the only fishery you take advantage of, then I would look for something else. If you want the ability to float shallow into tailouts, that's your ride.

The water you identified is more along a 18 dead rise water if your fond of your spine. My brother has a Duck Nav with 14 degree dead rise and mine is 18 degree dead rise & same hp (150) which means in moderate to heavy chop I flat ass run away from him. The shallow V boats are best suited for jet applications and small water. One has many manufacturers to look at but if your having one built it can be a bit of a wait. Then it is about just how much your of your $$$$$$$$$$ your willing to part with.

thanks guys for all your responses , if i could afford one of those new 60,000$ boats i would order one , i can only spend about 25k to 27k so i have to go used , trying to find a low hour clean boat is hard and when they come up you have to move fast , there's alot of junk out there for sale . i own a 16ft alumaweld sea dory that i have out grown and need to upgrade, mostly fish the snohomish, sky, cowlitz, baker and chelan and pretty much know the answer to my question ( 12 degree 150 two stroke) if i want to stay with a open boat with a jet but that boat does not come up for sale very often. looking to get into a bigger boat so i can also fish some of the bigger water fisheries , thank again

That helps. Here is a boat in Portland and this outfit does consignments & no junk allowed. Might fit you as the motor is newer. Thing you want to watch for is a older hull & newer motor. Banks go by hull year so older boats updated are hard to finance thus lower price.

Sold my 1988 in 1993 to a guy in Sultan, loved that boat. Is yours going to be for sale?

Advice for ripalip2. It is as follows. Take Coop's advise. Then then tell him to sell me his boat (19 6degree scout) with that engine at a fair price! That would be all.

Carry on about plastic conoes with outboards. Couldn't gift me one.
