While snorkeling in the Galapagos I had a sea line, twice, grab my swim fin and tug to get my attention. I was spending too much time watching the others and not him.

They aren't pets or harmless.

This is a great example of an emerging trend that I am labeling as "stupid selfie accidents." Stupid selfie accidents are defined as deaths or serious injuries suffered by morons attempting to capture a selfie-style image in close proximity to:

1. Dangerous drops and steep edges
2. Pissed off animals including but not limited to moose, bears, buffalo, elk, gorillas etc.
3. Other naturally occurring features and phenomena including waterfalls, tornados, floods, waves, etc.

I've expanded "selfie-style" images to include "take a picture of me next to this thing" dumfuckery as well.

The desire for popularity and attention has appantly replaced the basic need or desire to survive, thus empowering stupid people to take entirely unnecessary risks, often oblivious of potential consequences, for the chance of getting a few likes on the interweb. What have we become?

The bad news is that we have created a safety web in society that is devoted to saving people from the consequences of their poor decisions. Personal responsibility and accountability are all but a thing of the past. Darwin be dammed.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes?

The concept of Kodak courage is nothing new, but-on-camera-bravado pales in comparison to the stupid, situationally-unaware nonsense that I'm seeing on a relatively regular basis these days.

Common sense, apparently, is not so common any more.

Best post I've read in a very long time. Society has gone mad...with much support and enablement. Where does it end?

Entropy Danny. A slow decline back into disorder.

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, one way or another, we'll all return to from whence we came.

Looks like a perfect application for a Dave's Bread Crumb colored yarnie, a 6/0 treble, and some down rigger line.

And all that hooked up to a yard arm and a powered winch.
Then let the sucker hang there for a while.
And maybe whack 'im a few times with nice, hickory stick selected by me.

Yep, I'm a hater.

Several years back, about the time the Poodle was snatched off the dock in Westport, I had one stalking my daughter. She was about five at the time and as we were walking down the pier, the Sea Lion was keeping pace about six feet away. Every time he came up, i'd move my daughter to keep me between them and on the opposite side of the dock. It was totally creepy and I wouldn't be sorry to see the marina clean house.

Honestly, I am suprised it didn't happen sooner.

There exists enough data to confirm that these fat bastard opportunists are not to be trusted. At all. Most wild animals are like that.

They are fat bastards.
And I'd like to see that fat jiggle with a good whack from my hickory stick.

LOL

OK... that does it ... no ifs ands or buts. Dad is screening everything in LMWS's fishin wardrobe before hitting Buoy 10 this summer.

Doc, as with most fathers of spectacular daughters, lost that battle years ago. I suspect 'lost" is being charitable.
