CCA roll call... - 01/25/08 02:50 AM

Please do not respond to this thread other than to state that you have joined. Just trying to see how many have committed to the cause... would love to see just how high the post count will go on this one.

Big Daddy, would you be so kind as to delete any post that does not fit the request?

I'm a member (with some concerns).

I've decided to place all of my "donation" income into the CCA. So, when I recently received a mailing from the Lewis County chapter. I read it and called one of the people listed for questions to suggest they have an option for people who cannot attend their event to buy raffle tickets for something like a Loomis rod or whatever.

Obviously, I knew it was too late to do it this year. But, I got a response that said the gambling laws did not allow it and was fluffing me off as this was not something that could be done in Washington State.

Now, Trout Unlimited, the Girl Scouts, Schools, Little League sports all have raffles! Why can't the CCA???

Immediate membership goal is 5,000, which gets recognition from the legislature. Many more is better

I have been givent he nod from the board to start an Olympia chapter, which will provide immediate access to the legislature and the various boards that meet here. Anyone interested can email me here, we want to have an organizational meeting as soon as possible.

i belive that this has a lot to do with CCA really tring to make money for the clubs, and if they were to have a raffle of this calibier it would go into problems with gambling due to making over 5000 dollars...i beilve you cant make over 5000 dollars during a calendar year for non profit orgs...i dont think the girl scouts and little leagues actually make that much, and if they did, they are prob keeping it to themselves...c

i could not attend, so i sent them a check...from four of us....c

Re: CCA roll call... - 05/15/08 12:27 AM

It is my understanding that the "Position Statements" are those of the CCA PNW State Board and not just the Olympia Chapter.

Anyone from the State level care to chime in on this one?
Posted by: sykofish

Re: CCA roll call... - 05/15/08 12:44 AM

Those were the exact position statements that were presented at the Columbia County CCA meeting last night here in St. Helens.

It is my understanding that they are the positions on the CCA N.W.
Posted by: Don Freeman

Re: CCA roll call... - 05/15/08 01:24 AM

The position papers were generated by the state board members including established fishery biologists and other industry professionals, reviewed by the PNW and national oversight , and released for public consumption. These opinions and objectives are those of the organization as a whole, and CCA stands behind them. Some critical issues are still under advisement, so until any further public announcement, these are the only particulars that the CCA is ready to go to the mat over. But you can be assured that these will be pursued wholeheartedly by the national organization, as well as the PNW Chapter and your local chapters.

You can take the recent release to the bank, so if you're on the fence about joining, or just curious about what CCA really intends to accomplish, read the position papers, it's short and concise. I believe that this fair and reasonable approach will succeed, and membership will continue to explode.

Very cool.. This is way more productive. Getting people on the same page, instead of us always trying to focus on our differences.

The things we could accomplish, if we spoke with one voice.

Sign your family up as Associate Members. It's only $15, rather than $25, and the only difference is you just get one set of magazines and other mailings per address. Put the other money aside for fund raisers. Membership dues go to the national office (which is good). All other money raised stays in state for our projects (which is better).

Todd, I appreciate your time and effort, especially the testimony before the Commission. The Chairman altered the order of testimony. You covered my points allowing me to speak from the heart. Francis brought along copies of the Region Six Harvest Management numbers.

I'd like to sponsor you as a brother from another mother, at Oysterfest tomorrow. Let me know...

Together, we can drive home the need for reform.

Thanks, Hans...if by "sponsor" me, you mean sign me up for the CCA, I'll pass...I probably wouldn't have done it anyway, not until some changes take place, but an attempt to extort it out of me has soured me on it even more...I'm not going to give into that, and I'm also not going to do anything that might even make it look like that had some sort of an effect on me joining or not...other than making it even less likely.

Fish on...

We will not take change until we all get together on one page.

IMHO CCA looks to be the vehicle to alter the current mindset at WDFW.

I joined a couple years ago and went to the Sno King banquet and I am now involved with the North Snohomish Chapter that is closer to home. Both groups have an excellent dedicated group of members. Just come to a meeting and meet some of the people.

Card carrier, sticker on the boat. Have encouraged and (well actually browbeat) two friends so far into signing up. I dont understand why people who say they are interested in protecting our fishing resource could be against it. Is there an evil agenda I am not aware of?

yes, we browbeat our friends into joining.
The banquet planning never ends....
Volunteers fish less.

Re: CCA roll call... - 10/03/09 07:17 AM

Browbeat??? So what, fishermen have proven for 50 years that unless someone "browbeats" them they will just keep going fishing and bitching about how bad it is getting!
If browbeating works then everyone should be doing it and it does work, no one wants to spend anymore time doing things that are not fun, but unless you get involved, it will just keep getting worse.

I'll bet every commercial fisherman on the west cost belongs to their organization and many of them were "browbeat" into joining. They seem to have plenty of power!

the current mindset to me anyway at the wdfw is to do everything we can so they dont lose hatchery funding, turn every fishery in the state to a selective fishery because "the hsrg said so" and actually believe that the hsrg recommendations can lead to recovery, sounds like you guys are the same already.

On another note, didn't they put a wier in the lower Grays river to stop all the Deep River gillnet hatchery fish from returning to the Grays and intermingling with the Grays River Stock?

What a wonderful river that has been given more and more restrictions every year..... We used to have a blast fishing that river for the kings/coho and chum and winter steelhead.... Now it's so limited with it's fisheries.... Heck I was down there 3 years ago and found a gillnet on the shoreline....

Plus it get's stray spring chinook from the Deep River program as well....

LB - No, I have not joined CCA. Not intending too unless they actually get past the banquet stage, and do something of significance. So far, nothing is different from the first year.

Ya, I remember that money thing, really bugged you. They hold banquets every year. They have five chapters in one state that raises more than a quarter million in one night. That means lots of donations and lots of buyers. They also passed the 2 million dollar mark for college scholarships in marine and fisheries majors.

A lot of people are doing the heavy lifting. Have fun fishing.

BTW you still have a commission. Koenigs is gone. Want to run for Jacobsons seat?

Re: CCA roll call... - 10/05/09 01:27 AM

Its quicker and easier to join online, as long as you know your PC is virus free.

I suppose you could also contact the vancouver office, but unless something changed recently, it gets mailed down to Texas. Doesnt hurt to call them.

If the chapter doesnt have receipts get two people to scratch something out. Cash can get lost or forgotten. They Probably.. arent set up for credit cards. Online is....
