Tokul Creek - Steelhead Trout Club Pushes Back

On July 26, 2014 the Steelhead Trout Club of Washington filed to intervene in the shoreline permit process for the fish passage improvements at Tokul Creek Hatchery.

The Club is being represented by local law firm Perkins Coie of Seattle.

The Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) has sued the Department over the fish passage improvements planned for Tokul Creek, already permitted , seeking to have the permits overturned on procedural issues. WFC, then Washington Trout, had previous sued WDFW for not having made similar improvements at Tokul Creek.

In addition to the general interests of the club members, the filing cited a vested interest by the Club, in the Tokul Creek Hatchery, by virtue of the fact that the Club provided significant labor in helping to dig some of the original rearing ponds. (Sometimes 87 years of history comes in handy).

The Club has been granted intervener status in the case and discussions are on-going.



Not the most significant suit WFC has brought, but perhaps the most irritating - we have had enough.

I will try to get some documents posted and linked in the next week.

I'm glad to hear this...when the lack of effective passage at the water intake diversion dam was a basis that WFC cited for suing WDFW, and then WDFW got the permits to fix it and WFC challenged the permit to fix it, I found that to be a pretty crappy set of circumstances.

The sooner the WFC ceases to exist, the better.

Not Sure I would say "circumstances" is quite the right word -a bit to passive for an accurate description of the contrary and deliberate activities of some.
