So I was talking to a friend the other day, and this came up. I will start: When people call fish "chromers" is one of mine, another is when the word EPIC is used. So much epicness these days!

"Good smoker."

Ron Warren, at NOF, when he uses the word "opportunity", when talking about sports salmon numbers.......

“Dude.... it cut red!”

“CHROMER!” when it’s clearly NOT.

I'd love to hear it or something of the sort more often. More and more people just plug right through, row right over, cast or even worse drop anchor into water being fished by another boat or bank angler. It makes me extra happy when I'm on the bank and a boat angler does it. Guides are no exception to this, certain ones in particular do it on the regular.

I actually like "bobber" a lot. Three reasons:

1. It's an intuitive name, which improves accessibility to the sport. Ask a newbie to pull a "strike indicator" out of your tackle box, and he may get it right, but if you say "bobber," his mind is likely to turn toward a device that "bobs" or "floats." The bubbly, floaty thingy is more likely to be (correctly) selected.
2. Bobbers, lest we forget, spend a LOT more time bobbing than indicating strikes.
3. Sometimes (not a majority of the time, but sometimes), I enjoy watching bobbers do what they do. I've accepted my darkness, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I occasionally use a bobber.

All that said, "strike indicator" is much more optimistic. Maybe I should use that term more.

Back on topic: "Pole." Or, worse still, "Two-Pole Endorsement." I don't hate "poles" themselves (they can't help what we choose to call them); just the name. "Two-rod" sounds pretty stupid, too, now that I think about it. Wonder why I don't object to that as much...

I have a dream that one day the state will see the light of day and never force someone to release a hatchery-produced salmon.

In any salmon fishery, gear is already in the water impacting wild ESA-listed or depressed stocks of salmon. Impact is accruing as long as the gear remains in the water.... it does not stop until the gear is removed from the water. Allowing the retention of ANY hatchery salmon gets the angler closer to his limit faster and thus gets him off the water quicker.

Mandating the release of hatchery-produced salmon is also counter-productive to the HSRG's charge of selective removal of hatchery fish to keep them off the gravel.

One I forgot to mention is when people call wild fish "natives". As far as I am concerned, if you are fighting natives it's a hate crime.

Sports must release wild Coho.......NT gill netters may retain !!!!! Grrrrrrr

Where they fish, released coho are good as dead so better to count'em dead out of the gate, account for the DIRECT mortality accordingly.

Where you fish, not so much.

Also keeps the rec fishery open longer....for the Economic Benefit!

The worst thing is when people use the word "club," as in "OMG guise I caught my first fish on a spoon, I'm in the bent metal club now!" or "I took ronnie down to induct him into the steelhead club." or "Jonas is about to let you in the sweat lodge club, so head on down to beaver creek and prepare your anus!" The only club in fishing is the one you use to beat fish over the head with.

Agreed... especially when it's caught on a $2,000 rod and a 6in purple and pink thing that imitates absolutely nothing. At that point, I believe the only fly thing about this is the mindset. Has nothing to do with a gear involved.

Although I guess it's probably true in terms of title, I still hated it when last year a fly fisherman from Europe with cigar in hand while floating by, called me a peasant. I'm not a violent person but had he been within reaching distance...

Yup. I tried to sneak in a "Brah" with my youngest last weekend, and she wasn't having it. Apparently, Brah was 1990s, and it's all about the "Bruh" in the 21st century.

The thing I hate is that a "dude" no longer necessarily refers to a male. Bugs me to see my daughters and their friends calling each other "Dude."

There's some bios I am not to sure of, but at least they should understand science. One of my biggest problems is that they don't really know how many of the numbers the use are derived.

Rivrguy can tell you about a model that said a net fishery in front of a rec fishery does not impact the recs. Or/and a net fishery by the Cowboys in front of the Indians had no impact.
