Seattle Opens Parks, Beaches & Some Public Markets - 04/19/20 06:37 AM

So now that Seattle parks and beaches along with some public markets are open, does this mean fishing will be next?

Wishfull thinking private lakes? wink

I'm sure WDFW will have the E-reg out as soon as they get to the office Monday morning...

Obviously it's about money and no planting.
They suck.

Just sent a letter to the director, governors office, and reps demanding fishing be re-opened effective immediately. Won’t hold my breath for a response back.

Poor wording on this on the media’s part, at least in regards to Seattle parks.
They never closed except for about 15 specific parks on Easter weekend to avoid crowding.
There are certain trails, parking lots etc that are closed and a bunch of new signage.
There has been a steady stream of folks utilizing the park I live across the street from for the last month I’ve been home. wink

The Snoqualmie trail which is a country trail that spans from Fall City to Duvall is closed. Complete nonsense. Just passed one of the parking entrances near stillwater and there is a decrepit travel trailer and garbage. He won't be kicked out or fined. Way to go!!!

Not trying to read into anything or take what the governor says out of context but a few days ago while discussing reopening some construction and other things, he said this....

“The good news for people who want to go fishing is, when we release restrictions on outdoor recreation, fishing’s going to be part of that,” he said. It was being discussed Friday and an announcement is expected “in the next few days.”

Gives me hope anyway. wink

Another excerpt from the KOMOS lake union fishing rally article....

"KOMO News reached out to the governor's office for a comment about the rally and what may be allowed. In an email, his office said it’s something Insleee will discuss this coming week."

We just heard on local news, update from Inslee on fishing, hunting, and golf later today.
Correction; someone must have told him hunting is closed anyway, they eliminated it in follow up story.

I believe that there was a youth Spring turkey hunt that was shut down. Haven't checked to see whether the general Spring hunts have been and are being affected.

They are. General Turkey was supposed to start April 15th.

Curious as to how, as mentioned above, "not planting" saves money. Those fish are on hand, they have been fed and grown up to size, using food, water, medicines, and care that costs money. To not plant them continues the accumulation of costs.

WDFW may have been forced to stop planting because of Covid rulings, but not because they don't need to get the fish out.

The excuse that not planting will "save money" is a great sound bite for the masses. More likely they don't want to create an incentive for more pressure to open fishing (or encourage scofflaws/poachers).

I fully expect to see an Emergency Closure Order on the June 1 opener due to “Heavier Volumes of Anglers” and citing “Poor Hatchery Returns.”

Just kidding.

Kinda.

Not really.

Even if it sounds totally absurd, this is the kind of news we typically get so why should we be surprised.

If you wait for a "june 1" opener the river may already be devoid of fish. check your regs. I wont see you up there June 1!
