Well done wing nuts, the investigation lasted longer than the JFK assassination, 911 and the Pearl Harbor bombing investigations.
And it cost the tax payers $7 million.

Found ineptitude on the governments part.

We need a law that says every time the right wing fruitcakes launch an "investigation" to discredit the President or a Presidential hopeful, and, as usual, find little to nothing, whatever money they spend comes out of their next tax cut for the rich.

That might get their donors to put a stop to the stupid witch hunts that they just can't help but launching every couple of years.

Here are the five most serious findings from it, according to reviews of the report from The Washington Post's Karen Young and Adam Goldman, Politico's Racheel Bade, CNN's Stephen Collinson and a news conference Gowdy gave Tuesday about it:

1. The State Department failed to protect our diplomats in Libya

This is the report's bottom line. It doesn't necessarily lay the blame at Clinton's feet -- Gowdy had said he wanted to keep the report focused on the facts, not personalities -- but the conclusion is clear: Clinton and the Obama administration should have realized the risks.

To back this conclusion up, CNN's Collinson reports that requests for more security in Benghazi leading up to the attack went unheard or were refused. (In a statement to reporters, State Department spokesperson Mark Toner indicated there was no new evidence in the report.)

2. The CIA missed warning signs

The report says the agency misread how dangerous Libya, in the midst of a revolution after overthrowing its longtime dictator a year earlier, was at the time. Recall the attack took place on Sept. 11, 2012.

3. The Defense Department failed to rescue Americans in time

Or at least, they were late in deploying help, waiting until well after the attack had begun even though President Obama had approved the military to do whatever it needed to hours earlier. U.S. military forces didn't reach Benghazi until the day after the attack. The report blames a breakdown in the chain of command for this.

"No U.S. military asset was every deployed to Benghazi despite the order of the Secretary of Defense at 7 o'clock that night," Gowdy told reporters in a press conference Tuesday. "So Washington had access to real-time access information yet somehow they thought he fighting had subsided."

(The Democrats' version of the report concludes that even if the military got to Benghazi earlier, it could not have saved the lives of the four Americans who were killed. Gowdy says that's beside the point.)

4. The Obama administration "stonewalled" the investigation

The administration engaged in what Gowdy described as "intentional," "coordinated" and "shameful" stonewalling of his investigation by refusing to turn over all of its records and delaying getting others to Congress.

5. A Clinton aide influenced the State Department's review

As noted above, Congress isn't the only branch of government that reviewed what happened in Benghazi. The State Department did its own, too, which was intended to be internal but independent (think the watchdog report on Clinton's emails).

But according to a section of the Benghazi investigation that Bade obtained, the report "was consistently influenced by" Cheryl Mills, Clinton's former chief of staff. Mills has said she offered suggestions on drafts, but they were merely that, suggestions.

What the report didn't answer

Among the most prominent areas the report doesn't shed light on are allegations that the United States was helping get weapons to Libyan rebels. Any such operation, which Politico's Bade reports Clinton herself supported but the administration never confirmed or denied, would have been top-level secret. (Recall the 2012 attack happened a year after a successful uprising against its longtime dictator, Moammar Gaddafi.)

Apparently the government still refuses to answer questions about whether it existed; the report says they refused to let anyone who might have knowledge of such a program testify.

This report simply proves whatever bias one had prior to its release!

Anything otherwise just proves what a [Bleeeeep!]!ng idiot you are!!!

It lasted so long the same reason Ken Starr's investigation lasted so long...they couldn't find anything.

In the middle of doing the exact same thing about Hillary's emails...which will find the same amount of absolutely nothing.

I love how those "fiscally responsible" Republicans are always willing to waste dollars hand over fist to do these pretend investigations, while their low information voting base continues to cheer them, while getting assraped by those they keep voting for.

Benghazi was a complete clusterfuk...plain and simple.

Clinton did plenty wrong, as did the entire State Dept. and White House.

They sent good people in, telling them they would be protected...but they weren't, and the White House was more concerned about the "spin" than the lives of the men who were fighting to stay alive.

Instead of working with actual facts, it became a "my team vs. your team", and rather than try to get them some help, the scramble was to protect your own political team. Facts be damned.

That's what the report shows, and the $7M they spent was a drop in the bucket...hell, the Gov't spends that much (and more) every week paying out fraudulent medicare claims.

Political parties be damned...the truth does matter.

I'm going with the Hollywood version...

1) We probably should not have been there

2) We were there and lightly protected

3) The CIA station chief was a pussy of the highest order

4) A few American warriors did what they could, valiantly

Hank clearly didn't even watch Gowdy stutter and squeal thru his presser this morning...even Gowdy debunked half of those "facts", and he's the leader of the witch hunt.

Its not always the Republicans spending money to investigate partisan issues. Rightly mentioned was Monicagate, or blow and go, whatever you want to call it. But not mentioned was the Valerie Plame Wilson investigation, which was driven by the Dems and the liberal media because they thought they might get Dick Cheney. That was a bargain at 3.5 million and netted 1 little perjury conviction.

There was a marine team ready to go to bengazi from Spain--- but spent 3 hours changing into different uniforms as the political hacks in Washington discussed the impact of the uniforms on the Libyans, so as not to hurt their feelings. All of a sudden 7 million dollars is a big deal but 20 trillion in debt is not.

If the movie is even remotely accurate, the whole thing was a giant WTF.

The movie was taken from the book 13 hours written by the warriors that were there.

They killed a sh!t ton of unfriendly Sand People and not a single camel, sheep or goat was injured.

M249 (SAW) and a grenade launcher were their heaviest weapons and the Sand People had RPG, 82mm mortar and 12.7×108mm heavy machine guns (technicals).
It was a present-day Alamo only with a better outcome.

If only they had an AC-130 Spectre gunship on standby...
They need to have one of these no more than 10-15 minutes away if they want to play these nation-building games.
