It's about time the Dawgs wind up a big game for the non-conference schedule.

I have thought about it a lot, and while there is always a bit of concern that I could be a homer on this one, I think the Huskies will win out in the Pac-12, so even a decent game with Auburn that results in a loss won't keep us out of the playoffs.

Our daughter has just gotten a 2 year post-doc at Clemson. Obviously have to visit a part of the country we've not been to. She suggested, and she's not a football fan, that we come out for a game. Probably next year. Small town, 10-20K population, with 80K seat stadium. Deer in her yard every morning so far.

Do it CM - you won't regret it. Death Valley is a treat in person and those southerners just go nuts for football. The hospitality, tailgating and BBQ is TOP notch. Just make sure you go to a game later in the year as Clemson's humidity in September is beyond brutal. Like Dante's 9th level of hell bad.

Well, we have a spy who should tell us about the weather! A lot of friends have attended games, even at Husky Stadium, against southern teams and really enjoyed the fans. There was a lot of "come on down for the game". That really is how the games should be be. Hard fought on the field and hard partied everywhere else.

My Spartans looked not very good last night and my hometown Rammies are just plain awful.

It'll be good to see what the Huskies are working with this year. Auburn is stout, but entirely beatable and I think the Pups pull one out.

Last but not least, the new (old) era of Husker football gets under way this evening. Depending on what ranking you are looking at, NU has either the 1st or 2nd hardest schedule in the nation this year. Teams better get their licks in this year, cuz' next year and beyond will see the return of total and complete dominance. In Frosty we trust!

They are not bad....not a top 10 team...but certainly not good on both Offense and Defense. Peterson finally looked out of element and looked a bit outcoached.

Here's to improvements on both sides of the ball and I guess we can now just focus on the Pac-12 and not worry about a National Title.

Pac 12 refs really are biased for the California schools as evidenced Friday and Saturday night.

Porter Gustin for USC was out the first half against WSU for targetting the Texas QB last week. He targetted Minshew towards the end of the game. Minshew checked to a run on 3rd and 6 after he had his bell rung. Should have had a first down and goal. Instead a blocked FG.

Helton was complaining about some close calls earlier that were not overturned in his favor that the refs got right.

WSU dbs were called for holding and PI all the time and some of the calls were ticky tack. Yeah they need to turn their heads.

Oregon got screwed tonight when the wide out took a reverse and went to the pylon overturing an apparent TD. Bryce Love got the benefit of the doubt later. Stanford dbs were interfering and no calls.

Oh well time to turn on Wurshington ASU.

Why are college kicker's so awful ? The goal posts are much wider than the NFL's. I can remember kicking 30-40 yard field goals at least at 50-60 percent back in HS, granted I wasn't kicking through a defense or crowd noise and pressure. I think there are so few younger player's that don't want such a thankless/unglamorous job. Meanwhile the NFL kickers are so much better than 20-30 years ago. Any thoughts on this?

That's kinda my guess Dan. It'll be a while, but I wouldn't rule that out. My guess is he'll want to go somewhere warm and with lots of croots. He's banned from the state of Florida and the SEC is off limits. The ACC is the SEC's little brother, so that's not a big enough stage to hold his ego. SoCal is the next best and logical option.

The winners of the Cotton Bowl (#2 Clemson v.#3 ND) and Orange Bowl (#1 Bama V. #4 Oklahoma) will meet in the Natty on Jan. 7th. We will make our Natty selections after those games are played on Dec. 29th. The natty game will probably be worth 6 pts, unless there are major objections.


Don't give up yet, we still have about 1/2 of our season points to go. Lots can happen in the next few weeks.

UW's secondary is damn good, but Haskins is a monster down field with enough scrambling ability to take off for first downs and extend drives. It was a tough call, but my brain had to go with OSU. Heart is all UW.
