Flu Shots

Flu Shots - 10/08/18 01:08 PM

I get one every year.

I've seen a few discussions on various forums where folks strongly agree or disagree with getting an annual flu shot.

Your thoughts...yes or no on getting a flu shot?
Darkside, what say you..... wink

Never had one. Don't really care if people do or don't. Barely care if I get one or not wink

No way for me. I never get one and never get the flu. Last time I had a flu shot (~10 years ago) I got sicker than a dog for a week.

I get one because I don't believe in fables like "the flu shot gave me the flu" or the tried and true "vaccines cause autism".

Also, everything that makes you sick in the winter is called the flu. If you get the flu vaccine, it protects you from the flu - not norovirus or any other infectious diseases.

Re: Flu Shots - 10/08/18 02:18 PM

never... and i rarely get sick...

Katie is forced to, but she doesnt like doing it...

her mother contracted Guillain Barre after getting it and died....

it also only protects you from last years flu, it mutates every single year....

Never had the shot. Can't remember the last time I had the flu. Several friends got the shot and got sick with something. Think I acquired lifetime immunity by being the target of every sick child's cough and sneeze during 27 years of teaching. Or maybe, it was the years of standing in the icy waters of a steelhead stream with fingers so frozen I couldn't tie the simplest knot, or dig the car keys out of my jeans pocket to go home. At my age, I should probably get a flu shot in each arm.

Never have, never will. The kids on my basketball team get sick each season and once in a while I'll get feeling lousy for a day or two. But after washing down some Echinacea with some tequila, I'm fine.

I never get one. It's just a good guess anyway when they make the annual cocktail.

Get one every year, doubters & naysayers are just pussys.

They no longer use a live virus. The same thing happened to me 20 years ago.

yep, ask a nurse if you should get a flu shot, they know much better than internet experts.

Re: Flu Shots - 10/08/18 10:21 PM

The CDC uses Australia as an annual template for our upcoming flu season and mixes US cocktails based on what they see there in the previous 6 months. On years the CDC guesses right, there is a 2.7% risk reduction score in the average US citizen chances in getting the flu. In years they guess wrong, its only a 1.3% reduction. Not getting the shot is baseline at 0%. At the individual level, the actual benefit is not all that great. On the population level, that does end up being a few million people who won't get the flu...even if they guess wrong (statistically speaking).

I don't get a flu shot because I'm scared of needles or don't see the cost / benefit. I don't get the flu shot because I am extremely lazy and that sounds like something that might require planning and effort. No dice.

I work in the medical industry. There is no live flu virus in a flu vaccine. You cannot get the flu from a flu shot.

I get one every year.

80 thousand dead from the flu last year.

It's taken pretty lightly for something that kills a lot of people.

Every year. Doesn't cost me anything as it's covered by insurance so that seems like a no-brainer to me.

I can't recall the last time I had the flu. 35 years ago. Maybe?

I believe in vaccinations, too.

I never got flu shots for years. I started getting them a few years ago, when it was pointed out to me that I'd become a senior citizen and part of the so-called high risk group. I like getting my sociable security checks and am not interested in becoming one of the 80,000 flu fatalities.

Glad you have insurance Paker. I don't. As Burt Reynolds said in Deliverance, "I don't believe in insurance....no risk".

I'll just say "You're welcome." in advance for paying the bill when you end up in Harborview or any other King County or City of Seattle medical facility.

Heck, I'd rather pay for your medical bills then the homeless issues I'm currently getting taxed for.

The best part is that Stam pays my salary. I specifically have asked that his taxes pay my salary.

PS - I want a raise, Stam! Pay up, sucka!

This is bullsh*t, pure bullsh*t. You guys keep spreading those lies. I went to the ER this summer under the suggestion of my sister who is a nurse. Bad stomach ache, thought maybe appendix. The ER took my BP, a urine sample, and a blood sample. All negative, sent me home 4 hours later.....to the tune of $3,400. I PAID IT. Nobody paid my bill but me.
And for those who say I should pay for insurance....about $5,000 annually and doesn't cover jack squat. Do the math. Next stomach ache, not listening to my sister.

Re: Flu Shots - 10/09/18 05:07 PM

I might get one for the hellofit this year.
Last year like 38,000 kicked the bucket due to flu.
This season is supposed to be worse.

Maybe if I kick in a little extra cash, I can get a needle scar.

WE NEED FLU CONTROL!

IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE!

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

NOBODY NEEDS THAT MANY VIRUSES!

WEAPONS GRADE FLU HAS NO PLACE IN OUR STREETS!

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS NEVER INTENDED FOR US TO HAVE H5N1. WHEN THE CONSTITUTION WAS WRITTEN, THEY ONLY HAD H1N1!

Re: Flu Shots - 10/09/18 10:16 PM

I've been getting flu shots for like 18 years straight. Haven't had very many symptoms except for sore shoulders and some flue like symptoms once in a while. The influenza shots are not 100% perfect. When I was a kid the flu would knock me down for a few days every other year.

I would recommend following the advice of the CDC, CDC flu protection

I thought they studied Pigs farms in China to predict the next upcoming flu virus.

Cut all gov't jobs by 10%, cut the pay of the lucky one's that get to keep their stimulus package jobs by 10%...
Start the tax refunds!

I approved this message, vote for me... for King.

Well, imagine that.

Donny Two Scoops has cut the federal payroll (gubmint jobs) by 24,000.

As part of his proposed 2019 budget, he wanted to make significant cuts to some federal agencies and projects (gubmint jobs) as part of an effort to slash the federal deficit by $3 trillion over the next 10 years.

wink

He's cutting the deficit all right by giving a huge tax break which is/was a total scam for the average citizen and just put us farther in debt. Completely unnecessary. Now he has to find a way to pay for it.

Hang on because as usual we will pay for it and it isn't going to be pretty. Implementing his "not thought out" tariffs will put us farther in debt. Maybe when he tries for re-election he can get his new buddy Kanye to be his VP. Just think, two fvcking whacked out idiots in the White House. (Not that Pence is normal. He's a freak as well. The quintessential fake christian.) The freak show just gets crazier.

By the way Hank, how much did you lose in your 401-K over the last few disastrous days in the stock market? I'm telling you be careful because president chump is going to bring the whole house down.
I was proud of him (not) when he got laughed off the stage at the UN. Interesting that Obama got standing ovations at the UN and Trump gets laughed at. Says a lot doesn't it? I know the whole world is wrong right Hank?
