Quarantine Birthday Gratitude

Quarantine Birthday Gratitude - 04/06/20 04:14 PM

Well, today is my 50th birthday.

We (me and a handful of buddies) rented a house near LaPush, and were going to be steelhead fishing most of last week.

That clearly didn't work out.

I'm going to take my girl on a walk around a local park that is usually pretty empty, so I'm sure it's completely empty now.

Then I am going to enjoy the beautiful day by BBQ'g some ribeyes while I drink a couple of beers, then we're going to eat the ribeyes with some fresh vegetables, a tuna sashimi appetizer, and a bottle of red wine (for me, my girl doesn't drink).

All things considered, I'll take it. I'm happy and healthy, so is my entire family (biological and chosen), and it's a beautiful day.

My job is "essential" and my paycheck isn't going anywhere, and neither are any of my team's paychecks, and that's something to be truly thankful for these days.

I've been working 7-7 since moving my office home, but it's just past 4pm and I am calling it a day today...my office looks like Hurricane Katrina, and both of my phones won't stop ringing...

But it will all still be there tomorrow, and so will I.

Fish on...

Happy birthday! Mine was yesterday, so I feel your pain having a quarantine bday, but it sounds like it will still be a good one!

Good attitude Todd, laying off good help is the worst. You're fortunate to be able to keep your team. Enjoy your birthday.

Re: Quarantine Birthday Gratitude - 04/06/20 07:03 PM

Yes, we will, Dan.

And...yes to not laying off any of my team. I have two engineers...one is almost 70 and recovering from throat cancer, and one is 55 with severe asthma...they have been 100% wfh for two weeks already, and as long as they are good doing the admin work I give them, they will always have jobs. The buildings will wait for their return.

I, on the other hand, get to do some building Engineer work lol in the meantime...when I do go into the City.

Damn ... 50 ? .... No worries ... I survived and so shall you ...

Todd, in a few years, and with a wee bit of moderation, you should turn out just fine. Perhaps contemplating a new approach that is not solidly based in looking down that long nose of yours at people who are just a little to the right of center than yourself.

Ya know, It could just give you a whole new outlook on life. Actually being more tolerant of people who may not see eye to eye with you politically might just be a good thing in the way we all co-exist.

Happy 50th .... been there ... done that. Many Happy Returns.

Cheers ... Marv

Happy (day after) Birthday Todd! 50 is a good year, although it's pretty much impossible to deny impending "middle age" at this point. It's unfortunate you're denied the opportunity to party and go fishing on your BD. Hope you and your GF had a nice dinner and walk in the park - gee that's the sorta' activity that passes for "date night" among older folks . . .

Re: Quarantine Birthday Gratitude - 04/07/20 09:37 AM

Happy 50th +One Day birthday, Todd! Just think of each day as being another milestone, and another reason to celebrate. That cabernet with a hunk of beef sounds like a good choice for a party in place dinner. Just because you're old, is no reason you have to quit fighting for "truth, justice and the American way"... wink

Marv, I have lots of folks I am proud to call friends from all across the political spectrum...I don't look down my nose at people who don't see eye to eye with me, I look down at people who deny facts, science, and logic, no matter what their political stripe wink

People definitely take this internet thing way too seriously, as well...you and I have met in person, and I think we were well met...this isn't real life here on the Dark Side.

I like how he started a bday thread dedicated to himself. That's a new route.

Should we tell him that his odds of dying from the corona virus at 50 years old just increased by many % points? If it were me, I'd have stayed 49.

Happy Belated 50th, ya old goat. I'm in for the Belated Toff's 50th Bday Bash..if and when that happens in the future.

Maybe it will be a joint venture along with the Evo/Beezy fight.

Feel free to holler my way if you need that extra pair of readers when tying leaders.

They say your eyes are the second thing to go once a man turns 50.

Hmmmmm.

Trust me I know and really thought twice before posting that comment.
I just think at Todd's age it's extremely important for him to get it done.

Life is short.

The camera handle is not.

The procedure is fine - I was not awake during the procedure.

It's the prep that is the horrible!

To me, the 4L of that solution one has to drink tasted like the smell of springer.

And I absolutely HATE that smell.

Next time, I'd pay the extra $$$ out of pocket expense and get the treatment where you don't have to drink 4 freakin' liters of fish slime.

Yikes... glad I’m not old, fat and bitter. Prolonged/excessive pot use definitely appears to kill ones motivation and achievement.

I actually smoked pot for the first time about 2 years ago. It was alright... booze and gambling are much better.
