Texas Secession

Texas Secession - 02/16/21 09:17 AM

Texas is having a snowstorm!

Their infrastructure can't handle it, and half of Houston is still without power, and they are having rolling blackouts all across the state.

Both Texas senators, Cruz and Cornyn, are begging for federal emergency dollars.

Question: Will this interfere with their rugged individualistic capitalistic secession from the United States, or is it just on hold until they get their Socialism dollars to get right first?

Question 2: Will Texas citizens get their additional $1400 Socialism checks before secession takes place?

As always, I sincerely hope every red county secedes from Washington State, and every red state secedes from the Union...they'll be broke in two months, and we won't have to continue to subsidize their stupidity.

That's a tax break I can really get behind.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/16/21 09:35 AM

While living in Texas it just happened to snow in the small town I called home for a short stint for the first time in probably 30+ years. I must have brought some of the PNW weather with me. It was maybe 1/2" or so. I remember jumping on the freeway in my old Ford 4x4 Highboy and heading into work at the local mall, doing about 65mph the whole way, and absolutely flying by every single car doing maybe 20 mph or so. It was hilarious. I was the only one to show up for my shift that day, including the manager. They acted like it was Armageddon or something.
Good times.

Got rear ended at a dead stop on the freeway, driving to the same [Bleeeeep!] mall job, by a Lincoln town car, my cab was on his windshield. Walked away with only a few scratches and bruises and he was not so lucky.

Sadly enough, the insurance company didn't see the same value in the truck I did, and gave me like 2K or something outrageous. I was so pissed! Too young, dumb and broke to fight it. Off to the junkyard it went.

I went back and checked on it months later with plans to buy it back and fix it only to be told it was crushed. frown

I replaced it with a 1970 Camaro big-block SS. So I had that going for me. Which was nice.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/16/21 11:18 AM

The part that's stupid about this whole situation is that Texas removed itself from the national grid to avoid pesky federal regulations that "cost too much" and "drive up the price of electricity", and with all those savings, the power companies in Texas were supposed to build up their infrastructure and capacity.

Shockingly, they pocketed the savings and didn't invest in anything, and now require our tax dollars to bail them out.

Why should they get our tax dollars when they caused this themselves?

This is what that "rugged individualism" looks like all over the country...right wing Socialists with their hands out all day, in every way.

Right wingers worried about Socialism should stop being the biggest Socialists in the country, as they are that, every time.

Stupid [Bleeeeep!] Ted Cruz popped off on Twitter about California last year when they were having rolling blackout.
Something about them being unable to provide even basic functions of civilization, like having reliable electricity.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/16/21 01:41 PM

Those utility companies that pocketed the money that they were supposed to spend on capacity and infrastructure need to pay back the taxpayers for every penny that we have to spend taking care of their fuckkup.

Sue them into the fuckin dirt, and their ratepayers can suck it up and pay them, since they're the ones who voted for this scheme.

Already happening...this is what happens when you...

-pin utilities to the market
-manipulate the market

I have zero compassion for folks who are about to receive gigantic power bills...they voted for this.

In true Right Wing Socialist fashion, however, they'll try to privatize the gains and socialize the costs...

They should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps, maybe buy a few less lattes on their way to work, and lay off the avocado toast.

"In true Right Wing Socialist fashion, however, they'll try to privatize the gains and socialize the costs..."

I hate this when I see it, no matter who does it.
Kind of like my republicans friends who blow up at the notion of restricting oil companies profits, but have no answer when I ask them how we can open a new refinery. Oh, you mean you want no government intervention on the profits or other actions except when they provide protection against competition.

It just as present in the liberals, who want to stop all foreclosures and evictions, but don't want to help the rich landlords pay the underlining mortgage. I have yet to see the state agree to hold off foreclosures on the same properties if you don't pay the property taxes or sewer bill.

It was also evident they wanted to stop development of the show box, but were not willing to pay market value and then make it a public venture. No, much easier to legislate others to fund a public service. Need all that money for a train system that most of us will never live to see. One went by me by me at around 4 pm yesterday in Auburn. Looked to have about 3 to 5% ridership, if that.

you conveniently left out that half of the wind turbines there are frozen, producing zero energy, and that is the 2nd highest output for electricity and the fastest growing source in Texas's power grid...

now imagine if Bidens punk ass bans fracking, which Texas's number 1 source of energy is natural gas...

Germany, which is the "green" capitol of the world, has 30k turbines not operating because there is no wind, and tons of the solar panels are covered in snow, producing no solar energy...

so much for the leftist nuts that want or think that solar and wind energy is the way to go...

You do understand why fracking isn't all that good, right?

Well, probably not.

There's a long list of things that are rather harmful to the local inhabitants, and the environment in general.

That's why its use is being discouraged and better options are being pursued.

from the San Antonio press

"More electricity in Texas was generated from wind power than coal last year, another sign of the rapid emergence of renewable energy in the state.

Since 2015, the amount of wind-generated electricity has more than doubled in Texas, and last year 23 percent of the state’s power came from wind turbines."

nah i use plenty of plastic..

worms, beads, plastic tipped projectiles, shotgun shells (getting a lot better at skeet BTW), Xboxes, computers, cartridge boxes, sunglasses, cups, ammo boxes, polymer handguns, rubber grips, synthetic stocks, lots of plastics used in reels, rods, etc...

what you dont hear me doing however, is bitching about it...

doesnt matter if the phone is cheap if its made by Motorolla... or Nokia, or Coolpad, or LG, or anything..

what im saying, if you are going to be a white knight for the environment, well, you need to stop doing everything that affects said environment...

that includes BBQing (both coal and gas), camp fires, wood stoves, and everything inbetween..

stop flying, stop using products that come in by land air and sea...

basically, grow some apples and make some baby food and STFU...

As a responsible home owner I just installed a very efficient new heating and cooling system that cut my electrical usage by almost 50%.

I also added better insulation and weather stripping, plus all LED lighting.

Grow many of my own vegetables, and have chickens for eggs. Don't eat much red meat, but I get all the fish and crawdads I need from rowing around out front.

Those steaks you claim to cook supposedly create a great deal of pollution while being created.

I have several different types of fruit trees and will be planting more this year.

I have a 2016 very fuel efficient vehicle that only has 10,000 miles on it. So you can see it doesn't get driven much.

My 2001 truck had 78,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2010, it just turned 100,000.

What have you done lately, besides collecting blood diamonds?

Texas produces a lot of all kinds of energy...it's huge, has lots of sun, wind, coal, petroleum, even uranium...but only 20% of what it produces is renewable, and almost all of that is wind.

Krijack, I posted that 80% of Texas energy is from coal or petroleum, you posted that 77% of it is...I'd suggest that I am right, and that 3% doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/16/21 09:03 PM

And back to fracking.

Didn't we just recently discuss it...well, if Evo forgot some of the details I understand.

Natural gas

Pro's
1. It burn cleaner than most other fuels. (That's it)

Cons

1. It takes around 3-12 million gallons of water for the average well.

2. That water becomes contaminated and can't easily be recovered.

3. That contaminated water tends to get pumped back deep underground.

4. The fracking (cracking of rock) can create earthquakes.

5. The contaminated water being pumped back into the ground can mingle with clean groundwater and contaminate surrounding water wells.

6. Since NG is frequently found around oil, the fractured rock can allow previously separated ground water and oil to mix.

7. Worse yet, this oil and/or contaminated water may leak into an aquifer.

8. Drilling for natural gas frequently releases huge amounts of methane that is just released into the air.

9. The air tends to be more polluted around the area where fracking takes place.

10. No community would be complete without the occasional natural gas explosion.

11. When the wells are abandoned the collateral damage and site clean up tends to be the problem of the community to take care of...and pay for. Or it becomes a superfund site and we all get to chip in.

Evo, please add other positives if you have some.

I figured jobs would come up.

Major oil spills tend to create a good number of jobs too. Maybe we should promote the occasional tanker running aground or an oil platform exploding as a jobs program.

Let's try to concentrate those jobs on the clean end of the energy production spectrum.

Not that any type of energy production is without potential problems, especially on the scale at which it needs to be produced.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/17/21 08:30 AM

So...back to the point of this thread...

The main reason that millions in Texas are without power is not wind, or solar, which amount to very little of their power, relatively speaking.

Their natural gas lines are frozen, and inoperable, and that's what creates a goodly portion of their electricity.

No natural gas, no electricity.

This is the direct consequence of lack of infrastructure to support their electricity generation, and this is the direct consequence of privatizing electricity and leaving it to the energy companies to take all those savings and make sure their schit works.

The other state that did this? California also deregulated electricity, and that's when Enron manipulated the supply to run up the prices and failed miserably at doing their job.

I still think that the feds need to give Texas disaster relief money to take care of the citizens who are getting fukked here, but the energy companies that are the direct cause of this disaster should be sued into the fuckin ground to get every penny of it back.

This right wing Socialism is draining our country dry.

Thankfully, though, some local elected officials in Texas are really stepping up to the plate to take care of their constituents...

https://ktxs.com/news/local/colorado-city-mayor-resigns-after-controversial-facebook-post

"No one owes you or your family anything; nor is it the local governments responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim, it’s your choice! The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING! I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn hand out! If you don’t have electricity you step up and come up with a game plan to keep your family warm and safe. If you have no water you deal with out and think outside of the box to survive and supply water to your family. If you were sitting at home in the cold because you have no power and are sitting there waiting for someone to come rescue you because your lazy is direct result of your raising! Only the strong will survive and the week will perish. Folks, God Has given us the tools to support ourselves in times like this. This is sadly a product of a socialist government where they feed people to believe that the FEW work and others will become dependent for handouts. Am I sorry that you have been dealing without electricity and water; yes! But I’ll be damned if I’m going to provide for anyone that is capable of doing it themselves! We have lost sight of those in need and those that take advantage of the system and mesh them into one group!! Bottom line, quit crying and looking for a handout! Get off your ass and take care of your own family!"

The folks that support privatized energy, like the good Mayor Boyd quoted above, sound exactly like those who support privatized health care...grossly overpay for schitty services so a few billionaires can get rich.

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/texas-frozen-wind-turbines-john-cornyn-b1803193.html

The headline reads:

"Why on earth would right-wing people with connections to the fossil fuel industry lie about ‘frozen wind turbines’ in Texas?"

The answer is obvious...money, and a country full of fuckin morons who believe every right wing meme they see on facebook or twitter to spread their lies for them.

They are the biggest Socialists in the country, and they also are the ones who whine like little bitches about "fake news" all the time...while spreading every lie they come across.

I'd vote for that Mayor.

Free-attle and 206-ville could use a good ass-whippin' about now.

Free-attle: "Hey, let's just give all grocery workers a mandatory $4 raise. For no reason. Screw their collective agreements with their unions and screw their ultra-small profit margins. Oh, and let's not give any other COVID front-line workers a raise. Screw them. And the teachers too. Definitely don't give any more money to our educators. Oh, and it's Amazon's fault and NO we do not have an out of control narcotics problem, compounded by non existent laws, of which if there are any laws, are not prosecuted by our attorneys, we have a homeless problem."

Why is it your posts and opinions are backed up by research, facts, and in-depth explanations of the actual problem.

Most people rely on memes and targeted questionable news feeds, it requires much less effort than reading full sentences.

So I'm not sure why your extra effort is needed.

I saw a picture today of a highway that forms the border between Arkansas and Texas...the Texas side is covered in snow, and dark businesses with no power.

The other side of the jersey barrier has the highway completely plowed and cleared of snow, full of cars, with lit up operating businesses all down the side.

Hey Evo, my friend. By now you must be feeling foolish for believing the lies by fox news and other fossil fuel propagandists who lied about wind power being the major cause of the power outages in TX.

Here's a tip to help you improve your Googling and foxnews viewing skills. When you see a "story" that makes you get all horned up with confirmation bias, cross reference the info (read other news sources) before you gut hook yourself again with lies and regurgitating them here.

Can we get the forums updated to add a Major Crimes Unit Discussion to put all of Evo's exploits in?

The Great Trailer Park Mail Theft Caper!

The Mysterious Case of the Lost and Found Fishing Rod on the Puyallup!

The Stupendous Sleuth and how he Googled an Address!

...and my favorite...

The Amateur Security Guard at the Wal-Mart Parking Lot and Tattling on Parking Lot Rats!

Maybe there can be a sub-forum called "Guys I know" where Evo can do all of his name dropping to keep it off the Dark Side.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/18/21 06:35 PM

Texas is a 3rd world country now, and that's just from deregulating one single utility from federal regulation.

One.

14 MILLION people were without power, and nearly half a million people are still without power, and as the power slowly comes back on, another cold front is on the way for the weekend and it will likely go back off.

7 MILLION people are being told to boil their water in Texas, but not that many can, because a goodly portion don't have any water at all. I watched them on TV dipping water out of swimming pools and boiling snow in their yards.

I wish Texas had seceded last month so my tax dollars didn't have to pay for those fuckin right wing Socialists...and I wish all the right wing Socialists everywhere else that want to secede had moved to Texas last month, too.

Thankfully that "free" market is taking care of the people so cheaply and efficiently...by absorbing what will be billions in tax dollars that those of us who aren't fuckin deadbeats are paying for.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/19/21 08:38 AM

So Rafael didn't have any power, so decided to hang out at the Ritz-Carlton on the beach in Cancun for a week...while most of his constituents were without power or water, and some were dying.

When it was pointed out to him that this is a pretty gigantic dick move...he claimed it was his young daughters' faults, and that he was just flying them down there, and coming right back.

Unfortunately his wife had been texting the neighborhood about their trip to Cancun...strangely enough, her story did not jive with Rafael's, which is crazy, because he always is such an honest man. Very trustworthy.

So he lied, again. Not a big shocker there. Ballwashers, cultists, and sycophants won't care...because they just don't care.

Oh, one more thing...he left his dog alone in the freezing house, while he intended to be gone for a week.

Left his dog alone in the freezing house while he was going to be gone for a week.

Dog. Freezing house. Alone. Week.

That Rafael is a heckuva man.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/19/21 08:44 AM

P.S. While Rafael was ditching his constituents to chill on the beach in Mexico, his former opponent for his Senate seat, Beto O'Rourke, created an all volunteer phone bank that contacted 750,000 senior citizens in Texas and helped as many as possible that needed it find food, water, warmth, and shelter.

AOC put together a fundraising drive and raised a million dollars in an hour and gave it to five charities in Texas that were directly serving those without food, water, warmth, or shelter in Texas.

Rafael left for a week, and left his dog, alone, in a freezing house.

He's probably pretty stressed out about his incitement of the failed insurrection and coup, so I'm sure the cultists will give him a pass for all of this. Can't do the peoples' work when you're stressed out!

Stupid perhaps, but it's not untrue. Technically, in geologic time, we (North American) are still in an ice age. Don't worry though, as the should switch over to a more warming phase in about 10,000 years or so. Unlike Evo, I took the PNW Glaciation class a the UW. One of the best/coolest non-majored class I took. Was cool to think that a few thousand years ago there was a kilometer of ice sitting over my head.

What is stupid is anyone who currently thinks and believes our world climate change is not being grossly and directly effected by human created factors.

Sadly, humans are not capable of doing much more than acting like a nasty virus to this planet. In the end, good old Mother Nature will fight back and rid herself of the Human Virus. We, as a species, are fvcked.

On a brighter note..... at least trump is out of office!

....things could be much worse.

Will be interesting to listen to the bitching and blaming from Republican's since they cut their own throats by electing trump in the first place, only to have him tear their party apart once America voted him out after proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he wasn't up to the job. Was selling the party's future for four years of trump worth it?

Try to remember this, when things get dark and gloomy..... you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

This happened a decade ago in Texas, they were told in no uncertain terms that their grid is not up to the task of providing power in times of extreme cold...but they ignored the advice, pocketed the money, and now are reaping what they sowed.

It's about as "unforeseen" as Trump's insurrection, when he told his crowd of ballwashers to walk up to the Capitol and fight.

Again mostly false. 494K Americans died while having COVID, it doesn't mean that is what killed them. The overwhelming majority had underlying conditions. Every person who dies is tested for COVID but just because someone dies in a car accident or something doesn't mean COVID did it. The average age of death for a COVID case is higher than the average age of death. Really makes you think, or maybe it doesn't.

659K Americans die each year of heart disease. Maybe we should shut down society that way they won't clog their arteries with greaseball McDonalds. 599K Americans die each year of Cancer. Maybe we should shut down society that way toxins and pollutants won't work their way into the human population and also shut down breweries, distilleries, wineries and tobacco farms too.

If you think the 494K Americans who died with but not necessarily of, Covid, was worth shutting down society for and the 1.2 million Americans who die of heart disease and cancer isn't, we'll then you are a special kind of stupid.

Imagine if you will a disease so deadly that you have to take a test to find out if you even have it, that disease is a lung disease and mouth swabs don't work so you have to take an anal swab test instead because your a$$hole is proximate to your lungs and your mouth isn't. Alex, what are things that even Bitch G wouldn't even believe? Inter-dimensional gnomes are more believable. This is almost like a test to see which people are so hopelessly brainwashed that they will belive anything. Fvck they could come out tomorrow and say up is down, the sky is green, rain falls up from the Earth to the sky, ice is hot, fires are freezing and it still would be more believable than the COVID hysteria and panic.

My faith in humanity has never been lower. At this point when a masktard screeches at me to wear a mask and says "Are you trying to kill us all?" I just answer with a simple "yes." This is not just deadpan humor. If you are that dumb and gullible, I kind of do want you dead that way your stupid hysterics doesn't menace the entire society. Years from now, I want all you masktards to look back on this time period and be ashamed of yourselves. I'm sure you will, if you remember it at all.

But hey, forget all that, lets censor actual doctors and scientists who are trying to inject realism into the conversation, the Silicon Valley Billionaire college drop who censors the actual doctors just know more, so any skeptics better just shut their mouth before Silicon Valley Billionaires shut it for you, but that's totally not fascism, it's just two more weeks to flatten the curve, so shut up, triple mask up and shove the anal swab up your ass, amirite fellow liberals?

Saying something is factually incorrect and demonstrating something is factually incorrect are two different things. Just like making a point in your post or making a pointless post are two different things. Or also like dying WITH covid and dying FROM covid are two different things.

I can almost guarantee you that I am more educated and have a higher IQ than you do. So instead of getting in a education or IQ dick measuring contest, why don't you just simply explain why I'm incorrect if you are so much more educated and intelligent than I. But you won't because then instead of making baseless claims about factual correctness, my education and intelligence, you know damn well that I'd be able to pick apart whatever bullsh!t you're able to string together. The smartest thing you've ever posted is that quote in your tagline.

The listed cause of death aspect has been beaten to death, and started early on. Yes, in some states they were required to list it if someone had covid when they died. This led to people dying in a car accident and also being counted on the covid list. When states went back and adjusted the count it typically only removed a handful of deaths that were incorrect.

The deniers also went after death certificates that listed heart failure, pneumonia, blood clots, and other things as being fake covid deaths. They overlooked the fact that this is how covid kills you, your body can fail in many different ways from symptoms of covid. Covid is the cause of these other ailments, but the virus didn't actually kill you.

And many covid deaths went unreported due to no testing being done, mostly in the elderly. Globally this is probably a much bigger problem.

I know quite a few people that have had it, some that you would have expected to have complications didn't. Others that wouldn't be on a high risk list died.

The US has handled it terribly because stupid people following a narcissistic refused to even follow some rather simple precautions.

It was obvious after traveling through states that did or didn't follow recommendations, then looking at the infection rates.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/19/21 04:49 PM

If you refuse to look at, or accept the data, then yes, none of it makes sense.

Countries that immediately went into lockdown and followed far sticker guidelines than what were suggested in the US have faired far better. They either didn't have much of an outbreak, or it was under control quickly. Now they're living in a way that while not exactly back to normal, is very close.

You claim to be smart, I don't make any claims. Because the perception of one's self are all too frequently wrong.

Infection rate

Washington population 7.6 million 342,007 infections

Utah population 3.2 million, 365,259 infections.

Idaho population 1.7 million, 168,639 infections.

And the rates in eastern WA are higher than in western WA. More deniers over here.

When Inslee dumbed down the test to allow regions to go back to phase two, Spokane didn't like that Western WA could open back up and they couldn't.

Spokane claimed they were being discriminated against just because they couldn't pass the test.

So it was dumbed down further so they could.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/19/21 06:44 PM

The death rates are skewed because locations that had early outbreaks had much higher death rates due to not knowing much about how to deal with the symptoms.

Plus many of these locations have populations that are far more susceptible to getting it, and dying. Blacks and Hispanics in particular, then add in that they are more likely to be low income frontline workers.

Again, deniers just look for "facts" that confirm their bias. It doesn't matter how you come up with "facts" if they fit what you want to believe.

Todd has 20,000 posts. He doesn't do long ones, just short little ones like the Blue Frank he is. Just paste all his posts together and it's one long rant. I just pack my posts tighter instead of ranting all over this forum all day every day in multiple threads. I think that the overall death rate is more illustrative because it smooths out the spikes and small weekly fluctuations. But OK, lets run the numbers. This is the total deaths per 100,000 over the last 7 days as reported by the CDC as of today. This controls for early outbreaks.

Strict Lockdown:

NJ .63
NY .65
CA .86

Average: .71

No Lockdown:

AR .60
IO .51
NB .33
ND .13
SD .36
UT .29
WY .35

Average: .36

Short mild lockdown:

TX .46
FA .80

Average: .63

So again, even if we look at the rolling 7 day death count of today instead of the total. There is zero evidence that the lockdowns helped according to the data.

Really, weren't you just going on about those dumb rural idiots in Eastern Washington and Spokane? I didn't realize it is such a hotbed of Blacks and Hispanics. I guess there aren't any blacks or hispanics in Florida or Texas either, strange. Racist virus, totally debunked the whole thing.

Why are the top 10 counties with worst death rates per capita all in heavily white rural counties?

Blacks and Hispanics are most likely to be doctors and nurses? Strange, most of them that I see are white. Got any data to back up this claim?

Anyway, prove you claim that the Blacks and Hispanics are causing this by adding these demographics to the analysis. I'm not going to because I'm not a racist piece of sh!t that makes ridiculous claims about people of color.

Also prove that low income is correlated with COVID, because the primary victims, the elderly, are the most wealthy demographic in America. If you really cared about poverty you wouldn't be creating more of it by having lockdowns.

I think you are confusing theory with fact. If you cannot logically refute a "theory", with actual factual data or some basic logic, it is then "fact" and not theory. A theory is the current best explanation for the facts that are available, subject to change as new data is developed.

Re: Texas Secession - 02/20/21 01:46 PM

extremehead, the problem I see with your Covid breakdown is that it is a state by state comparison. This is easiest because they report the stats by state. I think that if you looked at population centers you would see that the high density of people in some locations makes the death rate higher, obviously. So I think pretending that a shutdown in the town of Fukit Missouri is comparable to a shutdown in NYC is illogical.

You are a logical guy and I appreciate your effort at making your point. I just don’t think the comparison works.

2+2 is "factually" 4.

Many arguments such as covid and climate change are based on the best knowledge in the moment, but certainly not fact... If it were fact, there would have been zero change in how to treat or address the issue at hand.

Just like the world sees it, they see the moment and think if that's how it is now, that's fact when reality is it's the best theory or guess in the moment based on the current information available.

I've traveled extensively through those locations, lived in Arkansas and my territory covered the whole region.

These are Trump following, you can make me types that aren't going to follow most recommendations. And churches tend to be big spreaders.

I follow Cliff Mass blog at times and find it fascinating. I wouldn't say he doesn't believe in man-made climate change. The data suggests that these extreme weather events that crop up are part of the natural cycle and the media has a tendency to play the global warming card Every time these events happen, which is scientifically false. Cliff has said repeatedly that man has accelerated the "climate change" or warming process, and data indicates that it has been very small, percentage wise. He agrees that measures need to be taken to slow it, however the media needs to stop pedaling the global warming bs for every short term natural disaster that happens

Yes, I've followed him for years, he was booted from a local NPR radio show he did for years. The big dollar doners pulled strings and got him fired because they didn't like his more reasonable views being voiced on his blog. He never mentioned them on the radio.

Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals1 show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree*: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities. In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position.

Unfortunately for Texans, "free market electricity" in Texas has been a free for all for the electric companies, who have been heavily subsidized by the public, and then sells electricity to the public, too...they have been double ass-raped by the fake "free market" in Texas.

Guess what Republican Governor Abbot is proposing?

Some Socialism to save ratepayers from Capitalism.

They are really crushing it down there in Right Wing Socialism-Land. It's like a fuckin paradise.

First they give Socialism to the electric companies by subsidizing them with tax dollars, the electric companies gouge the fukk out of the ratepayers, and then they want to give the ratepayers some Socialism...which is really just giving more tax dollars to the electric companies, since they want to help the hillbillies pay their gouged out electric bills.

I wish Texas would hurry up and secede.

Texas wins another award.

"Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana are among the worst states for children during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new study from Save the Children.

The study ranks states using a combination of factors including child hunger, access to technology for remote learning and adult difficulty with paying bills each month.

Under those criteria, Texas ranked 48th, Mississippi 49th and Louisiana 50th."

Looks like those rugged individualistic market capitalists are about to get a nice infusion of Socialism.

At least they are bailing out the citizens (who probably voted for this bull$hit energy scheme) instead of bailing out the companies that caused the wreckage.

Update on Texas:

Power grid didn't work in the winter.

"It's too cold, we aren't built for this! Wait til summer!"

Power grid doesn't work right now, again...because it's too hot.

Who could have foreseen it being hot in Texas?

Hopefully they will de-regulate a few more things in Texas soon, it's working out great for them with privatized electricity.

Here's the reminder that Texas Senator Rafael "Ted" Cruz was ripping on California when they were having energy grid problems.

In unrelated news, in spite of strict Covid-19 protocols, California continued, once again, to have the most robust economy in the United States. California also just gave back the biggest tax rebate in US history due to a massive $75 Billion dollar budget surplus...while adding more jobs and wage growth than the next several states combined.

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-06-14/california-defies-doom-with-no-1-u-s-economy

California is number one in every single economic indicator, and, by itself, is the 5th biggest economy in the world.

In further unrelated news, right wing dumbasses in California want to recall the Governor.

Evo has no need for real property as long as he can mooch off his mom and live in her double-wide. Gotta' love Evo's list of property assets: baseball cards, guns, a 60 pound back pack full of fishing tackle, and more old cars that don't run than do. Oh, and two diamonds. His net worth spread sheet must place him on the lowest rung of the American economic ladder. Of course money isn't everything, as we all know. However, who's gonna' pay the rent for the double-wide space when mom's gone?

And you still only have 30k to your name? Maybe real estate would be a better investment.

Let's say you actually have 30k. That would be a decent down payment that you could put down on a house.

Then either you can live in that house and pay the mortgage and in 20 or 30 years you'd own real property that you can retire in...

or, you could rent it out and let other people pay the mortgage and then later you can retire in it.

The only catch would be you qualifying for a mortgage. But that would require you to have...

....wait for it....

a job.
Posted by: DBS

Re: Texas Secession - 06/16/21 01:34 PM

And don't give me any excuses that real estate is a bad investment. Over time it is a great investment. Just ask someone who has made hundreds of thousands that way.

if i spent all the money i have on a down payment, i wouldnt have any money...

see when you dont have any money, and have to live like that, you learn things...

ill never be broke again...

when i got to 2k, i said i wouldnt ever go below it, then 5k, then 10k, then 15k, then 20k, then 25, then 30...

now, i want to buy a couple things, pay off the rest of the Jeep (2300), buy another shotgun (2500-3000), buy a truck, maybe take a vacation somewhere with Katie, so 25k right now is what i dont want to go below, and i wont, unless something bad happens and its nessecary...

will never be below 20 tho thats for sure...

and as i said earlier, the housing market will crash... ill wait till that happens, then slide in...

that 30k is cash assets, the cards and sh!t are material assets with monetary value...

I'm guessing this info is false in your eyes, Evo. Not that I care what you do or don't do.
time, card prices increased multiple times.
The values of baseball cards peaked in the early 1990's and then decreased by 10% to 30% over the next few years. Since that time, the card values have been relatively flat. Many people find this last statement hard to believe, but it is very simple to verify. Simply go online and buy a Beckett's Price Guide from the early 1990's. (It costs less than $10 with shipping.) You then can compare the prices of the exact same cards with a current Beckett Guide.

Predicting real estate bubbles and when they pop is tricky at best. But OVER TIME you can make lots of money in real estate. I'm talking many hundreds of thousands of dollars. An amount that would dwarf your 30k.

I just gave you serious and good investment advice.

Re: Texas Secession - 06/16/21 01:53 PM

no one goes by or uses Beckett prices anymore, they are irrelevant.. the only true price anyone goes by is Ebay sold listings...

card values in the last 2-3 years have skyrocketed, you have the famed 1952 Topps Mantle RC card that 10-15 years ago sold for 200k in mint condition, now, one sold not that long ago for 5.2 million...

a Mike Trout rc sold for 3.5 million..

the Mahomes rookie i have, is a Donruss Press Proof RC that i got out of a clearance pack at Walmart for 3 bucks, that card his RC year, was about a 20 dollar card, mine is mint, and should grade a 10, regardless, raw cards have sold for 350-450 dollars for the same card...

Griffey rookies that were 30 dollars for 10 years, are now back up to their peak area in mint raw state, at around 100-150 dollars, and graded ones in the 10s, are worth 2k daily...

like i said, ive been doing this for a little bit...

Magic is through the roof as well, go look up a Beta Black Lotus in a 9 grade, then scoop your jaw off the floor...

Re: Texas Secession - 06/16/21 01:54 PM

i also didnt reject anything, i just said im not buying a house right now with the prices at where they are at...

the market will crash, just like it always has... then ill make the decision of when and where...
Posted by: 5 * General Evo

Re: Texas Secession - 06/16/21 01:59 PM

thats actually for vintage stuff, new stuff, is more of a hype market, if someone does good, cards go through the roof, just like with that gamestop sh!t, people buy it up and then it settles a little bit, generally lower than what it sold for...

but as i said earlier, Mantle isnt going to beat his child to death, or rape someone, so his legacy cant be tarnished, like say Aaron Hernandez... his cards were hundreds when he was playing, now is usually just wierdos that want them, and they dont sell for much either...

it was an error because Fleer never saw it when they printed it, his fellow players played a prank on him and wrote that there just before his photo shoot for the cards, and no one saw it before they printed them... then they had to try to correct it..

cant just be sending out cards like that and kids getting a hold of them lol..

there were a few versions, a black box version, a white version, a scribble version, but the most sought after, is the true Fvck Face one...

Re: Texas Secession - 06/16/21 02:21 PM

kinda the same thing with the Honus Wagner 1909 T206 card, there are several speculations as to the deal with that one, 1 is he was extremely anti-tobacco, and didnt want kids buying ciggarettes to get his card, 2nd is that they didnt pay him enough, so they only printed like 50-150 of those cards, no one really knows, but only 60 true ones exist as of now...

in 1933 that card was "worth" 50 bucks, then in the 90s it sold for over 2 million, and in 2016 i think it was it sold for over 3 million...

coincidentally enough, in the 1948 Leaf set, he has a huge fvckin wad of tobacco in his mouth...

REEVo, I have in basement a jaw dropping collection of cards and comics in their nice plastic sleeves. I am sure others on this board have the same or similar. The difference, I stopped collecting when I was 13.

I do have a bunch of Magic cards worth ridiculous $$$. I would like to go through them at some point. The collection is still there for me. Every five or so years I go through it and reminisce. I even remember some of the trades with friends and people I played Magic with as a kid.

I would never sell this stuff. It is pretty neat actually. I don’t give a flying [Bleeeeep!] what cards and comics are doing nowadays, but I still have my collection stuck in late 80s early 90s. I think that type of experience is what this stuff is supposed to be about.

One great thing about real estate is that most people are leveraging their down payment. I have seen increases in the past year well over 20%. If those home owners put a 3.5% under an FHA loan and got some help from the seller in closing costs (which used to be common), then they could be in less 5% on a $300,000 beginner home. That means their $15000 investment gained them close to $60,000 in equity last year. Yes they have payments, insurance and other costs, but with the low interest rates, these likely are not much above, if at all, over what rent was running. It's a long term proposition, giving there are selling costs, but its a forced saving, that, right now, is returning a huge profit.
Of course, if you are not paying rent, utilities, or any thing else, those house payments seem like a complete waste.

REEEVo says the housing market will crash soon, if that happens do not sell. All the people who were ruined in the last recession have one thing in common, they sold off everything at low.

I bought a house at the bottom of the market 9 years ago and at 3.25%, I figured I'd never refinance. I sold that house last year for a little over twice what I paid for it, bought another house that cost twice as much as that, with a 2.35% loan this time...with about $60K in renovations in the last six months, the value has gone up over $200k already (mostly due to appreciation, though a tidy chunk due to adding 400sf of living space to a 2800sf house).

'Course, it's not a box of baseball cards, or a very thin stack of Clevelands, but it's getting me by. If only I qualified for some of that good ol' Socialism I'd have all of that, plus $1,400.

Collecting cool stuff is cool, and fun.

Collecting cool stuff and pretending it is a job, or your retirement fund, is stoopid.

Believe it or not...people with jobs and houses collect cool stuff, too, and typically have more money to do it with.

With a job, you get to do all the things...pile up money, pile up investments, collect whateverthefuck they want to collect, and go on cool hunting and fishing trips...it's not either/or.

I bought a short sale in 2009 at the bottom of the market for an extremely low mortgage and rate. The bank couldn't force the paper into my hand fast enough. Where I live in Snoho used to be semi "country". Now it's packed all around me with cardboard box homes on postage stamp lots going for 3-4 times what I paid for a bigger house and 1 acre. I wouldn't doubt that the development man comes calling soon. You want it to build 8 houses on my lot? Cool - I want 3x market price. Then I'm out and will start living my childhood all over again.

I collect a variety of things such as signed baseballs, coins, and such. They are "worth" quite a bit but in order to recognize that, I'd need to sell them. That is not why I collect them. Maybe my kids, or grandkids, will convert them to cash or some other collectible.

Re: Texas Secession - 06/17/21 12:36 PM

i could buy 10k rounds of ammo, but 2 more cars, pay the one i have off, and still be fine...

what is your point anyways?

Carcassman, signed balls are cool, i had a 1941 Red Sox team signed ball with Williams in the sweet spot... sold that for a little over a grand a few years ago...

In a word, yes. People here have given you good advice but you argue with them for god knows why. I guess you just want to be right, even when you're wrong.

So, back to your comment. When interest rates are super low like now (~2.5% for a 30 year fixed) and almost zero in any money market acct right now, you are actually losing money due to normal inflation.

The smart move would be to take advantage of the low interest rates of a mortgage and let that money invested in real property work for you.

Still, there is one catch. The banks will require proof of employment, which you refuse to get.

Anyone with decent credit and an income can get a halfway decent loan of almost free money right now...and buying property is the best investment ever, period, especially right now.

cool story, i dont like debt...

im proud enough going from zero 5 ish years ago to where we are at today...

you would have to have experienced it to know what its like...

and i did it with no help, i got laughed at, made fun of, told i couldnt do it, and got zero help when i begged for just a little..

i had people try to take advantage of me, i had people that DID take advantage of me, and yet here i am...

no inheritance help, no family help, no friends help, just a bunch of bullsh!t...

from having to get rid of sh!t to afford gas, to having too much sh!t laying around...

i dont need a big house with 10 acres to be happy, i dont need an 80k dollar truck to look cool and do what i do...

im happy, and thats all that matters...

Why not buy 20K rounds of ammo? Or instead buy 4 more cars? I mean nobody ever had enough ammo and cars…

Re: Texas Secession - 06/17/21 02:54 PM

gonna buy a truck, i buy ammo when i see it..

after the truck, gonna get a boat, unless we can work something out with Katies dad, he already has 2 and i guess is getting another one...

almost bought a square body S10 from a buddy, he had it for 3000, and for an additional 3000 i could have got his 406 SBC that ran low 11s in his 65 Elco, would have put the truck in the mid to high 10s...

didnt want to deal with the installation so i passed..

would like to find a late 90s Z71 extended cab with as close to 100k miles as i can, preferably under 9K... havent found one yet thats near by so...

and no, you cant have enough ammo, i already said ive burned through over 14k shells since November, thats just the 12 gauge... add another 1500-2k in 20 gauge, then the 6.5's, .222, .223's, and .22 LRs which are easily upwards of 3-4k...

Katie gets whatever she wants, shes got a few grand on her in jewelry, dresses way nicer than i do, and i have no problem doing that...

me, i keep it simple, and just have fun...

Let me see if I understand this; Evo hasn't had a job or steady source of income of any sort for years as far as can be told from his posts. By most appearances he's a classic dead beat. Yet Evo has economic assets galore and can afford all the ammo, guns, cars, jewelry, and baseball cards that he wants, while living in his mom's double-wide. Neat treat; how do you do it Evo? Did you win Lotto or somethin'? Things just don't add up otherwise.

My favorite, among the baseballs, was from a team that went to Japan in '35 or '36. Joe and Dom D, Tony Lazzeri, Lefty Gomez, Cookie Lavagetto, and a few other good northern Californians. Don't know the value, don't care as it's going nowhere.
